World Bank Approves $108 Million Loan To Improve Disaster Preparedness For Assam

Aimed at improving disaster preparedness for flood-prone areas, the World Bank has approved a $108 million loan to help the northeastern state of Assam to enhance flood forecasting and safer evacuation.

The project will benefit around 6 million people and is part of a larger $500 million investment programme for Assam.

Gordon Moore, Intel Co-Founder, Dies at 94

Intel and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation announced that company co-founder Gordon Moore has passed away at the age of 94.

Moore and his longtime colleague Robert Noyce founded Intel in July 1968. Moore initially served as executive vice president until 1975, when he became president.

IFC Picks Up Green Bonds Worth $50 Million From Tata Capital Arm

Tata Cleantech Capital, the green funding arm of Tata Capital, said that its equity partner, the International Finance Corporation, has picked up its sustainability-linked bonds worth $50 million, or about Rs 375 crore. The bonds are the first in the country issued by a private financial institution.

Tata Cleantech Capital is a joint venture between Tata Capital & the IFC.

Argentine Mathematician Luis Caffarelli wins 2023 Abel Prize

Argentinian-born mathematician Luis Caffarelli has won the 2023 Abel Prize — one of the most coveted awards in mathematics.

Caffarelli won the prize for the recognition of his work on equations that are significant for describing physical phenomena, such as how ice melts and fluids flow.

The award is endowed with 7.5 million Norwegian kroner (about $647,300).

Agriculture sector employs highest female workers: labour ministry report

The agriculture sector has the highest estimated percentage distribution of female workers followed by manufacturing.

Nearly 63% workers are female in the agriculture sector at the pan-India level, while the estimated percentage distribution of female worker in the manufacturing sector is 11.2%, according to the annual Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) Report 2021-22
