Cheetah to be re-introduced in India from Africa in November: MP govt

Cheetah, the world's fastest land animal which was declared extinct in India in 1952, is expected to be re-introduced into the country in November this year at the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh.

The country's last spotted cheetah died in Chhattisgarh in 1947 and it was declared extinct in the country in 1952.

Kerala farmer bags India Biodiversity Award 2021

Shaji N M, a farmer from Wayanad, who took up farming tuber crops as a solution to fight lifestyle diseases and poverty, has won the prestigious India Biodiversity Award, on the International Day for Biological Diversity.

The India Biodiversity Awards was founded in 2012 jointly by the ministry of environment, forest & climate change.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik's Private Secretary VK Pandian to receive FIH President’s Award

V Karthikeyan Pandian, an IAS officer, and private secretary to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, was conferred with President’s award by International Hockey Federation through the 47th FIH Congress.

Karthikeyan was awarded for his contribution in direction of the event and promotion of hockey in Odisha.

IIT Ropar develops unique detector ‘FakeBuster’ to detect imposters attending a virtual conference

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar and Monash University, Australia have developed a detector named ‘FakeBuster’ to identify imposters attending a virtual conference without anybody’s knowledge.

It can also find out faces manipulated on social media to defame or make a joke of someone.

India’s Narinder Batra re-elected as International Hockey Federation president

Incumbent Narinder Batra of India was on re-elected as the International Hockey Federation (FIH) President for a second term during the virtual 47th Congress of the sport’s global governing body.

Batra will hold the office until 2024.

Batra is also the President of the Indian Olympic Association and an International Olympic Committee member.

Ana, first named Atlantic storm of 2021, forms near Bermuda

The first named Atlantic storm of the season is posing no threat to land and is expected to dissipate in a few days. The National Hurricane Center in Miami says Subtropical Storm Ana is drifting northeast over the Atlantic Ocean after bringing rain to Bermuda.

Ana was located about 270 miles northeast of Bermuda with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.

Dr Nageshwar Reddy becomes first Indian to win Rudolf V Schindler award

Padma Bhushan awardee and noted gastroenterologist Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, who is also the chairman of AIG Hospitals, has won the highest honour from the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) — the Rudolf V Schindler Award making him the first Indian to receive this honour.

The Rudolf V Schindler award is the highest category in the Crystal Awards of ASGE.

CISF chief Subodh Jaiswal appointed CBI director with tenure of two years

Subodh Jaiswal, a 1985 batch Maharashtra cadre IPS officer and chief of the CISF, has been appointed Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Jaiswal, along with KR Chandra and VS Kaumudi, was short-listed out of 109 officers for the top post by the high-powered committee led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Banking technology startup Zeta has raised $250 million from Japanese investment major SoftBank at a valuation of $1.45 billion.

Zeta has become the 14th Indian startup to cross the valuation of $1 billion in 2021.

SoftBank's Vision Fund II was the source of the investment.

The company's value has increased by more than threefold as a result of SoftBank's investment.

1971 war hero Col Panjab Singh passes away

Colonel Panjab Singh, a 1971 Indo-Pak war hero, who with a handful of soldiers repulsed an attack by a Pakistani Army battalion and defended a strategic point in Poonch, died of post-Covid complications.

The Vir Chakra recipient passed away at the age of 79.
