The Central Depository Services (CDSL) has received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to appoint two new executive directors to the board: Amit Mahajan and Nayana Ovalekar.
Amit Mahajan will oversee Vertical 1, which encompasses Critical Operations. Meanwhile, Nayana Ovalekar will take on Vertical 2, which covers Regulatory, Compliance, Risk Management, and Investor Grievances.
The appointments are subject to ratification by the shareholders of CDSL and will be effective upon their respective dates of joining. The SEBI approval was communicated through letters.
After a successful lunar flyaround, NASA has announced three missions to the moon as part of efforts to establish a permanent base on the earth's natural satellite.
At a press conference here, NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman unveiled a $20 billion plan to set up a permanent base on the moon, equipped with lunar rovers and drones, for carrying out experiments that would help master skills to live and operate in the dangerous environment.

Fino Payments Bank said the RBI has approved extension of tenure of Ketan Merchant as interim CEO for three months.
The Reserve Bank of India vide its letter dated May 25, 2026, has approved the extension of tenure of Ketan Merchant as interim CEO of the Bank, for a further period of three months w.e.f. May 27, 2026.
In a stock exchange filing last week, Fino Payments Bank had said its board had approved extending the tenure of Merchant subject to regulatory approval.
In March, the RBI had approved the appointment of Merchant as interim CEO of the bank, for a period of three months after MD and CEO Rishi Gupta was arrested by GST officials in a fraud case relating to tax evasion.
Gupta however took voluntary retirement and resigned on May 21, 2026.
Shares of Fino Payments Bank closed at Rs 128.70 apiece, up 2.71 per cent over previous close on BSE.

The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has introduced two new plans New Jeevan Sathi-Single Premium and New Jeevan Sathi-Limited Premium.
Both are non-par, non-linked, individual, savings plans. These are joint life plans which offer a combination of savings and protection, LIC said after CEO and MD R. Doraiswamy launched the new plans.
Both the products will be available for purchase from June 1.
The premium under New Jeevan Sathi-Single Premium is payable only once and it offers guaranteed additions at the rate of ₹70 per ₹1000 basic sum assured every year, throughout the Policy Term. Various options for selecting the policy term are available.
Unique features of the New Jeevan Sathi-Limited Premium include premium is payable for a limited period, guaranteed additions every year at the rate of 7% of total tabular annual premium for the premium paid throughout the policy term and benefit of premium waiver on the first death.
Both are joint life plans that cover a married individual along with his/her spouse in a single policy. The minimum basic sum assured is ₹3 lakh. Rebate in premium is available to existing policyholders and nominees/beneficiaries of deceased policyholders. Benefits payable on death or survival are guaranteed, LIC said in a release.
The Government of India has constituted a High-Level Committee to study the demographic changes arising from illegal immigration and other abnormal reasons, and to suggest measures to deal with these demographic changes. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had announced the “High-powered Demography Mission” on 15 August 2025.
The Union Cabinet gave its approval to this proposal on 11 September 2025.

Senior IAS officer P. Jawahar on Monday assumed charge as Chairman of the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA).
MPEDA, under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is the apex statutory body responsible for promoting, developing and regulating India’s marine products sector and seafood exports.
Before taking up the new assignment, Mr. Jawahar served as Chief Electoral Officer and Commissioner-cum-Secretary to the Government of Puducherry, handling key portfolios such as Industries and Commerce, and Education.
With an academic and administrative background in agriculture, environmental sciences and urban planning, he is expected to bring a strong focus on sustainable growth in the seafood export sector.
As per provisional data released by MPEDA, India’s seafood exports reached an all-time high of ₹72,325.82 crore, approximately US$8.28 billion, during the 2025-26 financial year. Export volumes also touched a record 19.32 lakh metric tonnes.
Shyam Lal Meena, one of India's pioneering Olympic archers and a member of the country's first-ever archery contingent at the Olympic Games, died after a prolonged illness.
Born on March 4, 1965, in Kevadia village of Rajasthan's Banswara district, Meena rose from modest beginnings to become one of the early torchbearers of Indian archery.
Meena was part of the Indian men's recurve team alongside renowned archer Limba Ram and Rajat Haldar that clinched bronze at the 1987 Asian Archery Championships in Kolkata -- regarded as India's first major international medal in archery.
The podium finish secured India's qualification for the Seoul 1988 Olympics, marking the sport's debut for the country at the Summer Games.
Meena subsequently made the final cut for the Olympic squad and represented India at the 1988 Summer Olympics alongside Limba Ram and Sanjeeva Singh, becoming part of India's first-ever Olympic archery team.
At the Seoul Olympics, Meena finished 71st in the individual qualification round, while the Indian men's recurve team placed 20th overall.
In recognition of his contribution to Indian archery, Meena was conferred with the Arjuna Award in 1989.
The main celebration of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 will be held in Kolkata, West Bengal on 21 June, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare Shri Prataprao Jadhav announced.
He further informed that the theme for this year’s observance is “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, highlighting the role of Yoga in promoting physical health, mental well-being and healthy ageing.

The ‘Mission Queen Pineapple, Tripura’, a transformative three-year project with an outlay of Rs 236 crore, was launched in New Delhi.
The project was jointly launched by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, and the state’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath.
Addressing the launching ceremony, Agriculture Minister Nath said that Tripura is a land of hills and dales, with nearly 70 per cent of the state’s geographical area covered by hills and hillocks, locally known as ‘Tilla’, while the remaining 30 per cent comprises plain land.
According to Nath, despite possessing such premium genetic characteristics, smallholder pineapple growers in Tripura continue to receive farm gate prices ranging between Rs 6 and Rs 10 per kg, whereas processed or export-grade Queen Pineapple fetches between Rs 80 and Rs 150 per kg in domestic as well as international markets.
Nath said that the Queen Pineapple is a spiny, golden-yellow variety known for its sweet taste, pleasant aroma, juicy flesh, and rich nutritional value.
It contains vitamins A, B, and C, as well as minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron.
The fruit has Total Soluble Solids (TSS), or sweetness, ranging from 13 to 17.2 degrees Brix and acidity levels between 0.6 and 0.8 per cent, giving it a balanced sweet-tart flavour.
The Ministry of Agriculture would contribute Rs 30 crore, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries Rs 25 crore, & the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) Rs 4 crore.
The Ministries of Industry and Commerce and MSME, along with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), would contribute Rs 2 crore each towards the project.
Government has notified the National Sports Governance (National Sports Board) Rules, 2026 and the National Sports Governance (National Sports Tribunal) Rules, 2026.
The National Sports Governance (National Sports Board) Rules, 2026 provide for the composition of the Board, term of office of the Chairperson and Members, salary, allowances and other conditions of service, as well as the powers and functions of the Board.
Under the Rules, the National Sports Board shall consist of a Chairperson and two Members to be appointed by the Central Government from a panel of names recommended by the Search-cum-Selection Committee.
The National Sports Board will function as the central authority for granting recognition to National Sports Bodies and ensuring compliance with governance, financial and ethical standards.
The Rules also incorporate techno-legal measures for digital implementation, including notification of a dedicated portal by the Central Government for submission of disputes, notices, responses, documents and clarifications, as well as communication from the Tribunal, publication of orders, virtual hearings and maintenance of records related to proceedings and orders.
The National Sports Tribunal will serve as a dedicated adjudicatory body for sports-related disputes in the country, aimed at reducing reliance on civil courts and ensuring independent, speedy, effective and cost-efficient disposal of disputes relating to sports governance and administration.
The Tribunal is also expected to reduce multiplicity of litigation and provide a single-window mechanism for faster, simpler and more accessible resolution of sports disputes.

A veteran sports administrator and cousin of former Punjab Chief Minister, now a senior BJP leader, Capt. Amarinder Singh, Randhir Singh belonged to the Royal family of Patiala and was from the fourth generation of the distinguished sports family.
His uncle, Maharaja Yadavindra Singh, represented India in Test cricket, while his father, Raja Bhalindra Singh, served as a member of the Indian Olympic Committee from 1947 to 1992.

An Indian researcher based in Japan has named a newly discovered large structure of galaxies after Manipur’s Loktak Lake, seeking to “immortalise” the northeastern state’s identity in the cosmos.
Dr. Ronaldo Laishram, who led an international research team as a postdoctoral researcher at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), said the structure was studied using the Subaru Telescope in Hawaii and the James Webb Space Telescope.
Dr. Laishram said the idea of naming the structure after Loktak Lake came to him immediately after the discovery.
The 29-year-old researcher from Khangabok in Thoubal district said he considered several names linked to Manipur’s cultural and historical identity before finalising Loktak.
Laishram said the findings of the discovery suggest that even 12.6 billion years ago, when the universe was about 1.2 billion years old, a galaxy’s surrounding environment influenced its growth.
Dr. Laishram and his associates also launched the Manipur Astronomical Society in 2025 to bring together astronomy enthusiasts and researchers on a common platform.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the creation of a joint venture company between Mercuria Energy Netherlands B.V. and Tata International Singapore (Pte) Ltd.
The Proposed Combination involves Mercuria Energy Group Limited (Mercuria Energy), through its subsidiary Mercuria Energy Netherlands B.V (Mercuria/Acquirer) and Tata International Singapore (Pte) Limited (TISPL) entering into an agreement in respect of formation a joint venture company (Target - to be established) in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC),
United Arab Emirates (UAE) (together with the associated pre-closing restructuring and transfers, the Proposed Combination).

She highlighted India’s international labour mobility framework, including the Ministry of External Affairs’ eMigrate platform, the National Career Service platform, Model Career Centres, and the broader skilling ecosystem involving the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, States and educational institutions.
Secretary further stressed the need to strengthen Japanese language readiness, sector-specific skilling, testing infrastructure, skill mapping, occupational alignment, structured demand aggregation, ethical recruitment practices and institutional collaboration between India and Japan.
The Assam Government’s Foreign Language Initiative for Global Talent (FLIGHT) was highlighted as a State-led initiative to prepare candidates for global workforce opportunities, particularly for Japan-oriented pathways.
