Jan Dhan Accounts Cross 50 Crore-Mark in less than 9 years.

The total number of Jan Dhan accounts crossed 50 crore on August 9, according to the latest report submitted by the banks. Of these, 56% of the account holders are women, and 67% of these accounts have been opened in rural or semi-urban areas.

The deposits in these accounts stood cumulatively at above Rs 2.03 lakh crore and about 34 crore RuPay cards have been issued.

World Humanitarian Day | 19 August

In 2008, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution designating 19 August as World Humanitarian Day to honour the memory of those who lost their lives in the Baghdad bombings.

It is observed to recognise the work done by humanitarians around the world by venturing into disaster-stricken regions and onto the front lines to save and protect people's lives.

RBI issues revised guidelines for IDF-NBFCs

RBI has withdrawn requirement of a sponsor of Infrastructure debt fund non-banking financial companies(IDF-NBFC).

They will be required to have net-owned funds of at least ₹300 crore & capital-to-risk weighted assets ratio(CRAR) of 15% with minimum tier-1 capital of 10%.

IDF-NBFCs can raise funds via loans under external commercial borrowings with minimum tenor of 5 years.

12 per cent of sitting MPs in Rajya Sabha are billionaires: ADR report

About 12% of sitting MPs of Rajya Sabha(RS) are billionaires according to a report by Association for Democratic Reforms(ADR) and the National Election Watch(NEW).

According to the report, 5 (45%) out of 11 MPs from Andhra Pradesh, 3 (43%) out of 7 MPs from Telangana and 3 (16%) out of 19 MPs from Maharashtra have declared assets worth more than Rs 100 crore.

Centre rolls out Rs 5,000 crore RLI scheme for pharma, med-tech sectors

Centre has rolled out a Rs 5,000 crore research-linked-incentive(RLI) scheme for pharmaceuticals and med-tech sector to strengthen the research infra in the country & promote more industry-academia linkages for research and development(R&D).

The total outlay of the scheme would be Rs 5,000 crore over a period of five years from 2023-24 to 2027-28.

Scheme has two components.

The Central Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2023 defines the expressions online gaming, online money gaming, and virtual digital assets.

The Integrated Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2023 amends the Integrated Goods and Services Tax Act 2017 to exclude online money gaming from the definition of online information and data access or retrieval services.

BRO commences construction of world's highest motorable road in Eastern Ladakh

Border Roads Organisation(BRO) has commenced the Rs. 520 cr construction of the world's highest motorable road, the Likaru-Migla-Fukche road close to Hanle in Eastern Ladakh.

The 64-km long road will connect Likaru to Fukche which is situated 3 km away from the LAC in Eastern Ladakh.

The new highest motorable pass will set a new world record at an altitude of 19,400 feet.

Former DRDO Chief V.S. Arunachalam passed away at the age of 87.

V.S.Arunachalam helmed the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and was the Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister from 1982-92.

He was conferred the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award (1980), Padma Bhushan (1985), Padma Vibhushan (1990) and DRDO's Lifetime Achievement Award (2015) for his contribution to engineering science and technology.

Government approves Rs 57,613 crore for 10,000 e-buses across 169 cities to promote green mobility

57 thousand 613 crore rupees will be spent on PM-eBus Sewa.

Ten thousand new electric buses will be deployed in 169 cities.

The scheme will cover cities having a population of three lakh and beyond as per the census 2011 including all the Capital cities of Union Territories, North Eastern Region, and Hill States
