Government has designated financial services secretary Rajiv Kumar as finance secretary. He succeeds Subash Chandra Garg, who was shifted to the position of power secretary. Kumar has played a crucial role in initiating banking reforms for state-run banks.
Garg served as the economic affairs secretary.

RBI relaxed norms for end-use of money raised through ECBs. ECBs with a minimum average maturity period of 7 yrs can be availed for repayment of rupee loans availed domestically for capital expenditure as also by NBFCs for on-lending for the same purpose.

Lok Sabha passed the Consumer Protection Bill that seeks to establish the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) to protect and enforce consumer rights. The CCPA will take immediate action after a complaint is filed by consumers.
The bill would replace the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.

He was appointed as Executive Director of IMF in Nov 2015.
