India had to curtail a massive 31 GW of renewable energy capacity in the January-March quarter owing to a lack of transmission capacity and system flexibility. The continued curtailment of clean energy comes at a time when peak power demand touched an all-time high of 256 GW last week.
"During Q4 2025-26, approximately 27 GW (72 MU) of solar and 4 GW (6 MU) of wind generation were curtailed. An additional 83 GW (103 MU) of solar and 11 GW (17.5 MU) of wind were curtailed under the Indian grid’s Tertiary Reserve Ancillary Service (TRAS)," the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) said in its latest quarterly energy snapshot for India.
The Reserve Bank of India has said that 98.47 per cent of the 2,000 rupees denomination banknotes in circulation have been returned, nearly three years after it announced their withdrawal. The central bank had declared the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes from circulation on May 19, 2023, as part of its currency management exercise.
At that time, the total value of such notes in circulation stood at 3.56 lakh crore rupees. According to the latest data, this figure has now sharply declined to 5,451 crore rupees as of April 30, 2026. The facility to exchange 2,000 rupees banknotes has been available at 19 RBI issue offices since the withdrawal announcement.
Net and gross goods and services tax (GST) revenue grew 7.3 per cent and 8.7 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y), respectively, to record highs in April, driven primarily by a surge in import-linked collections.
While net GST collection, after adjusting for refunds touched ₹2.11 trillion, gross GST collections reached ₹2.43 trillion, despite the sharp tax cuts announced in September 2025 to boost demand. Net domestic revenue grew just 0.3 per cent to ₹1.65 trillion, even though gross domestic revenue stood at ₹1.85 trillion, as higher refunds offset gains.
The government has notified the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2026, introducing revised provisions related to Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders and citizenship applications. The Ministry of Home Affairs has made changes to the Citizenship Rules, 2009, and notified the amendments through a gazette notification.
The Ministry said that a minor child cannot, at any time, hold the passport of any other country while also holding an Indian passport. According to the notification, all applications for OCI card registration and renunciation will now be submitted electronically through the official portal.

Ishank Singh, a Class 3 student from Ranchi, finished the swim from Talaimannar in Sri Lanka to Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu in 9 hours and 50 minutes. The feat was officially recognised by the Universal Records Forum.
The crossing, part of “Mission Samandar”, began early yesterday morning and saw him battle strong currents and rough seas before reaching the Indian coast by afternoon.
