Rajasthan becomes first state to provide health insurance for all its residents

The State began the registration for its cashless ‘mediclaim’ scheme Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme,announced by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in the state budget 2021-22.

Under the scheme each family in the state can claim up to ₹5 lakh every year for medical expenses.

First farm-based solar power plant under PM-KUSUM comes up in Rajasthan

Plant is established under the Prime Minister’s Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (KUSUM) scheme in Jaipur district’s Kotputli tehsil with a provision for production of 17 lakh units of electricity every year.

The 1 MW farm on 3.5 acres of farmland is first among 623 projects selected by the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited.

Isamu Akasaki ,Japanese scientist who won the Nobel for 'revolutionary' LED lamp has passed away

Isamu Akasaki won the 2014 Nobel prize with two other scientists,Hiroshi Amano and Shuji Nakamura.Together they developed the world's first efficient blue light-emitting diode.

Providing the missing piece of the puzzle for bright white lamps,their breakthrough also helped develop the colour LED screens used in smartphones and modern tech.

IIT Kanpur develops touch-sensitive watch for the visually impaired

Two researchers from IIT Kanpur have developed a touch-sensitive,tactile,haptic watch that can help visually impaired people learn what time it is by touching the face.

The watch makes up for two of the disadvantages of watches made for the use of visually challenged people: first,the lack of privacy in watches that audibly announce the time and second,the large sizes.

Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan approves National Policy for Rare Diseases, 2021

The policy aims to lower the high cost of treatment for rare diseases,with increased focus on indigenous research & local production of medicines.

A provision for financial support up to Rs.20 lakh under the Umbrella Scheme of Rastriya Arogya Nidhi is proposed for treatment of those rare diseases that require a one-time treatment (diseases listed under Group 1 in policy).

World Bank approves USD 32 million project to boost health services in Mizoram

The project titled "Mizoram Health Systems Strengthening Project" will strengthen governance & management structure of the Mizoram Health department and its subsidiaries.

As a key strategy,the project will move towards a performance-based financing system where Internal Performance Agreements between state health department & its subsidiaries will foster accountability.

Delhi-Meerut Expressway opened for traffic

The 96 km-long 14-lane expressway will reduce travel time between Meerut and Delhi to 45 minutes from over two and half hours taken currently.

The expressway will also reduce the travel time of commuters from Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Haridwar and Dehradun to Delhi. It has been constructed with over Rs.8000 crore and will also help in resolving congestion & pollution.

PhonePe becomes first player to cross billion-transaction mark on UPI

PhonePe has overall clocked close to 1.3 billion transactions on its platform, across payment offerings of wallet, cards as well as UPI in March 2021.PhonePe also claimed that its annual payment value run rate hit $388 billion in March.

Overall UPI volumes in India have more than doubled,as transactions on the network touched 2.73 billion in March 2021.

World Trade Organization Revises Upwards Trade Growth Forecast For 2021 To 8 %

WTO revised upwards the growth forecast of global merchandise trade in 2021 to 8% compared to the 7.2% growth forecast in October 2020.

Decline in volume of world goods trade for 2020,has been pared to 5.3% compared to a 9.2% fall projected earlier.World GDP at market exchange rates should increase by 5.1% in 2021 & 3.8% in 2022 after contraction by 3.8% in 2020.

New jobs by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) hit record high in FY21 amid Covid

KVIC, the nodal agency for implementing Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP),disbursed Rs 2188.78 crore margin money in FY21 to create a whopping 5,95,320 PMEGP jobs through 74,415 micro-enterprises set up across the country amid the Covid pandemic.

FY21 disbursement by KVIC was 103.2 per cent of the targeted Rs 2,120.81 crore disbursement.

Wipro has signed an agreement to acquire Ampion,an Australia-based provider of cybersecurity,DevOps and quality engineering services,for a cash consideration of $117 million.

Ampion is headquartered in Melbourne and was formed through the merger of IT services providers ‘Revolution IT’ and ‘Shelde’.

Alfred Aho wins the 2020 ACM Turing Award

Alfred V. Aho, Lawrence Gussman Professor Emeritus of Computer Science, has won the 2020 Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) A.M. Turing Award, known informally as the "Nobel Prize of computing." Aho shares the award with his long-time collaborator Jeffrey David Ullman.

The Turing Award carries a $1 million prize, with financial support provided by Google, Inc.

The vaccine for animals,developed by a unit of Rosselkhoznadzor(Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance),was named Carnivac-Cov.

The immunity lasts for six months after the vaccination,but the dose's developers are continuing to analyse this.The use of this vaccine,as per Russian scientists,can prevent the development of virus mutations.
