Mumbai's Haffkine Bio Pharma to manufacture Bharat Biotech's Covaxin, Centre gives nod

The Centre allowed Mumbai-based Haffkine Bio Pharma to manufacture Bharat Biotech's Covaxin.

Haffkine Institute, the biomedical company has sought permission from the Centre for the transfer of technology from Bharat Biotech, which in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research, developed Covaxin.

Maharashtra's Priyanka Mohite becomes first Indian woman to scale Mt Annapurna, world's 10th highest peak

Priyanka Mohite from Satara in western Maharashtra has scaled Mt Annapurna, the 10th highest mountain peak in the world, becoming the first Indian woman climber to achieve the feat.

Mount Annapurna is a massif in the Himalayas located in Nepal that includes one peak over 8,000 metres and is considered to be one of the toughest mountains to climb.

Former RBI governor M Narasimham passes away

Former Reserve Bank of India Governor Maidavolu Narasimham, famously known as the father of Indian banking reforms, passed away at the age of 94.

Narasimham served as Reserve Bank of India's (RBI's) 13th governor from May 2, 1977 to November 30, 1977.He was awarded Padma Vibhushan award in 2000.

ITBP Water Sports & Adventure Institute, Tehri (Uttarakhand) Inaugurated

Water Sports and Adventure Institute (WSAI) of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) [S. S. Deswal, DG, ITBP] established at Tehri Dam (Uttarakhand) was Inaugurated.

ITBP’s Mountaineering and Skiing Institute (M&SI), Auli, will independently run this institution and that the institute will impart the training in Aero, water and land related sports and adventure sports.

India’s first disk-footed bat recorded in Meghalaya; dwells in bamboo grooves

A team of scientists have discovered India’s first bat species with disk-shaped sticky feet in Meghalaya. The species, Eudiscopus denticulus, was found at Lailad close to Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary.

Till now, the species was recorded in few localities in Southern China, Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar. With this find, the number of bat species in India increases to 130.

Olympian Ahmed Hussain passes away

Football Olympian Ahmed Hussain Lala passed away, aged 89. Ahmed represented India in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.

Ahmed was also a well-known defender of the famed Hyderabad City Police team in the 1950s under the tutelage of one of India’s greatest coaches ever, late S.A. Raheem.

India and Germany sign agreement on ‘Cities combating plastic entering the marine environment’

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH India signed an agreement on Technical Cooperation titled ‘Cities Combating Plastic Entering the Marine Environment’.

This project is envisaged under the contours of the Joint Declaration of Intent regarding cooperation signed in 2019.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha first party to declare name of donor who contributed through electoral bonds

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is the 1st party that has declared the name of the entity which made donations to it through electoral bonds, poll rights group Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) said.

The declaration of ₹1 crore donation was made in the party's 2019-20 contribution report. The donation was made by aluminium and copper manufacturing company Hindalco.

Renowned botanist & former BSI director Dr. Sudhanshu Kumar Jain passes away

In 1995 he laid the foundation for the ‘Institute of Ethnobiology’, which started functioning initially in NBRI, Lucknow.

Dr. Jain was the first Asian to receive the World Economist Award. One of his books on medicinal plants, used as evidence in US courts, helped India win a popular case of patent of 'haldi' (turmeric).
