World Food Safety Day : June 7

World Food Safety Day (WSFD) is observed annually on 7 June to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks.

The UN General Assembly proclaimed in 2018 that June 7 would be regarded as World Food Safety Day every year.

In 2020, World Health Assembly passed a resolution to further strengthen global efforts of food safety to reduce the burden of foodborne diseases.

PM Modi launches ethanol dispensing stations in Pune

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched three E100 ethanol dispensing stations in Pune under a pilot project on the occasion of World Environment Day.

One of the ethanol dispensing stations has come up at Samgamwadi petrol pump, another at Chowisawadi village and third at Wesley road.

In 2020, oil companies spent ₹21,000 crore on ethanol procurement.

Former power secretary Sanjiv Nandan Sahai elected as Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) chairman

Senior administrator and former power secretary Sanjeev Nandan Sahai is set to take over as next chairman of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).

A search committee headed by V K Saraswat, Member (S&T), NITI Aayog, cleared the name of Sahai.

EESL, TERRE partner to mainstream carbon neutrality in higher education institutions

State-run EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Limit) and non-government organization TERRE (Technology, Education, Research and Rehabilitation for the Environment ) have partnered to mainstream carbon neutrality in higher educational institutes on World Environment Day.

These projects will transform the higher education campuses in India into hubs for energy-efficient ones.

NHPC forms JV with JKSPDCL to set up 850-MW Ratle hydropower project in J&K

State-owned hydro power giant NHPC has incorporated a joint venture firm Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd for implementing 850 MW Ratle project in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

NHPC Ltd has incorporated this JV firm with Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Ltd (JKSPDCL) with equity participation of 51:49 respectively.

Arunachal Pradesh's Water Burial bags best film National Award on environment conservation at 67th National Films Awards 2021

Inspired by the popular Assamese novel Saba Kota Manuh, which is written by Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi, Water Burial is in Monpa dialect and has an intriguing storyline around a dark ritual of a local tribe in Arunachal Pradesh.

Punjab topped the national performance grading index of school education for 2019-20 released by the Centre

Punjab, which has improved its showing from the 13th position it attained in 2018-19, topped the charts this time among all the states and union territories with a score of 929 out of 1,000, followed by Chandigarh (912) and Tamil Nadu (906).

The performance grading index ranks the states on a set of 70 parameters relating to learning outcomes and quality, access, etc.

Defence Ministry signs contract with Mahindra Telephonics for 11 airport surveillance radars at a cost of Rs323.5cr

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) recently announced that the Defence Ministry has signed a contract with Mahindra Telephonics Integrated Systems for procurement of 11 Airport Surveillance Radars with Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar for Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard.

The procurement costs Rs323.47cr and will be made under the ‘Buy & Make’ category.

ICAR-IISR gets patent for black pepper micronutrient mixture

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR) has received a patent for black pepper micronutrient foliar formulation.ICAR-IISR has developed crop specific designer micronutrient foliar formulations for major spices (black pepper, ginger, turmeric, and cardamom) to overcome micronutrient deficiencies.

India slips two spots to rank 117 on 17 Sustainable Development Goals

India's rank has slipped by two places from last year to 117 on the 17 SDGs adopted as a part of the 2030 agenda by 193 United Nations member states in 2015.

India ranks below four South Asian countries -- Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The overall SDG score of India is 61.9 out of 100.

Jharkhand and Bihar are the least prepared to meet the SDGs by 2030.

Amul's RS Sodhi elected to board of International Dairy Federation

The International Dairy Federation (IDF) unanimously elected R S Sodhi, managing director, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd or GCMMF that sells Amul branded products in India, to its board during the general assembly held on 1 June.

IDF is an international non-governmental, non-profit association and represents the global dairy sector.
