This day focused on making information accessible for all so that a robust structure of sustainable policies can be developed in society.

On November 17, 2015, UNESCO announced that the International Day for Universal Access of Information will be observed on September 28.

Theme 2021:- “The Right to Know – Building Back Better with Access to Information.”

Aveek Sarkar re-elected as Press Trust of India Chairman

Aveek Sarkar, the Editor Emeritus and Vice Chairman of the Ananda Bazar Group of Publications, was re-elected Chairman of Press Trust of India (PTI), the country's largest premier news agency.

Sarkar is a man of varied interests and counts books, food, wine and art among his principal loves.

He was captain of the Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC) for 10 years.

Indian Army kicks off ‘Bijoya Sanskritik Mahotsav’ in Kolkata

A four-day cultural event titled 'Bijoya Sanskritik Mahotsav' was kicked off to showcase the cultural linkages between India and Bangladesh during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War and bring to fore the various tales of valour of Indian Army soldiers & Mukti Jodhas in the historic battle.

The programme is part of the ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ celebration (50 yrs of war).

Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority(PFRDA) to observe 1 Oct as NPS Diwas to promote retirement planning

PFRDA will observe 1 October as the National Pension System Diwas to promote pension and retirement planning. For this, the regulator has kickstarted a campaign under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The pension regulator aims to encourage every citizen – working & self-employed professionals to plan - a financially sound future after retirement.

Modi govt starts work to develop ‘Parshuram Kund’ in Arunachal pradesh

The Modi government has started work for the development of ‘Parshuram Kund’, a Hindu pilgrimage site on the Brahmputra plateau in the lower reaches of the Lohit river in Arunachal Pradesh.

The project costing Rs 37.88 crore was sanctioned under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive’ (PRASHAD) Scheme of the Ministry of Tourism.

Rohit Sharma scripts history, becomes first player to score 1,000 runs against single opposition in IPL

Rohit Sharma became the first batter in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history to score 1000 runs against a single team during Mumbai Indians’ (MI) contest against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.

The 34-year-old achieved the feat in the fourth over of MI’s innings.

India's 'Akash Prime' Missile Successfully Destroys Aerial Target In Maiden Flight Test

India successfully test-fired a new version of the Akash missile from the integrated test range at Odisha’s Chandipur. The new missile named Akash Prime intercepted and destroyed an unmanned aerial target which mimicked an enemy aircraft during its maiden flight test.

Akash Prime ensuring reliable performance under a low-temperature environment at higher altitudes.

RBI imposes ₹11-lakh penalty on The Jammu & Kashmir State Co-operative Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) fined the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) State Co-operative Bank, Srinagar with an Rs 11 lakh penalty for inadequacy in regulatory adherence.

According to the report, contravention of section 23 read with section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 as the J&K State Co-operative Bank had opened branches without getting a prior nod from RBI.

RBI slaps Rs 2 cr penalty on RBL Bank for deficiencies in regulatory compliance

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a penalty of Rs 2 crore on RBL Bank for non-compliance with provisions of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

RBI said the penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers vested in it under the provisions of section 47 A (1) (c) read with section 46 (4) (i) of the Act.

Veranda acquires Edureka for ₹245 cr, deepens foray into edtech

Veranda Learning Solution said it has acquired Edureka, a live-instructor-led online solutions provider for the IT industry, for ₹245 cr. It is planning an outlay of around $100 mn for acquisitions over the next 6 months to "seize the opportunities opening up in the edtech space".The acquisition of Edureka is the 2nd buyout by the company since its launch in December 2020.

Govt to borrow Rs 5.03 lakh crore in second half of FY22 to fund revenue gap

The government will borrow Rs 5.03 lakh crore in the second half of the current fiscal to fund the revenue gap for reviving the pandemic-hit economy.

During the first half (April-September), the government has raised Rs 7.02 lakh crore by issuing bonds.

Out of gross market borrowing of Rs 12.05 lakh crore projected for FY 2021-22 in the Union Budget.
