PV Sindhu wins silver in BWF World Tour Finals

Indian badminton ace P V Sindhu settled for a silver medal at the BWF World Tour Finals after going down meekly against Korean teen sensation An Seyoung.

With this victory, An Seyoung became the 1st ever South Korean woman to win the season-ending title.

It was also her 3rd straight title in Bali, following wins at the Indonesia Masters and Indonesia Open.

Viktor Axelsen, Tai Tzu Ying named BWF Male and Female Player of the Year

Denmark's Viktor Axelsen and Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying were named male and female player of the year respectively by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

Starting from the Barcelona Spain Masters in February 2020, world number one Axelsen made 10 out of 11 finals and won seven of them including the Olympic gold in Tokyo this summer.

IPO-bound LIC improves asset quality, lowers net NPA to 0.05%

As per the latest Annual Report of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) ahead of its proposed IPO, the non-performing assets (NPAs) as of March 31, 2021, are Rs. 35,129.89 crore out of a total portfolio of Rs. 4,51,303.30 crore.

While the sub-standard assets are Rs. 254.37 crore, the doubtful assets are Rs. 20,369.17 crore and loss assets are Rs. 14,506.35 crore.

Russian Tennis Federation beats Croatia to win Davis Cup after 15-year wait

Daniil Medvedev guided the Russian Tennis Federation to the Davis Cup Finals title against Croatia in Madrid.

Andrey Rublev earlier had beaten Borna Gojo in straight sets to put the Russians ahead at the Madrid Arena.

Russia's other Davis Cup title was in 2002. Croatia also was seeking its third title after triumphs in 2005 and 2018.

Eileen Ash, the former England Test cricketer, passed away

Ash, who was the oldest Test cricketer, made her debut for England against Australia in 1937, and played seven Tests in all, taking 10 wickets at 23, including best figures of 3/35.

Her career was interrupted by the Second World War – she was seconded to MI6, the UK's intelligence service – and retired from the sport in 1949.

Manu Bhaker wins air pistol gold at national championship

Olympian Manu Bhaker asserted her class by winning the women’s air pistol gold in the 64th National shooting championship at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad.

After qualifying in the fifth place with 576, the 19-year-old Manu dominated the final, except when the eventual silver medallist Shri Nivetha briefly snatched the lead.

Indian-American Mathematician Nikhil Srivastava Nominated For AMS Ciprian Foias Award

The American Mathematical Society (AMS) has unanimously nominated esteemed Indian-American mathematician Nikhil Srivastava for the first Ciprian Foias Prize in Operator Theory.

Along with Srivastava, who teaches at the University of California, Berkeley, Adam Marcus and Daniel Spielman are the other two recipients.

Centre gives approval for plan to manufacture over 5 lakh AK-203 assault rifles in Amethi

The Central government has approved a plan to produce over five lakh AK-203 assault rifles at Korwa in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi.

Uttar Pradesh is on way to become a defence manufacturing hub of India.

The 7.62 X 39mm caliber AK-203 rifles will replace in-service INSAS Rifle inducted over three decades back.

The Government has appointed Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer Neelam Shammi Rao as the Central Provident Fund Commissioner in the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).The ACC approved Ms. Rao’s transfer from her current post, Director General (Training) in the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, to the top post of the retirement fund body.
