Union Jal Shakti Minister announces 3rd National Water Awards

Union Minister of Jal Shakti Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat announced 3rd National Water Awards-2020. In the Best State category, Uttar Pradesh has been awarded first prize, followed by Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. The first National Water Award was launched by the Jal Shakti Ministry in 2018.

KVIC launched India's first “Mobile Honey Processing Van” to support farmers and beekeepers

Chairman KVIC Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena launched the country’s first Mobile Honey Processing Van at Village Sirora in Ghaziabad. This mobile honey processing unit can process up to 300 KG of honey in 8 hours. The van is also equipped with a testing laboratory, that would instantly examine the quality of honey.

NSO released First Advance Estimates of National Income, 2021-22

Real GDP or GDP at Constant Prices (2011-12) in the year 2021-22 is estimated at ₹147.54 lakh crore, as against the Provisional Estimate of GDP for the year 2020-21 of ₹135.13 lakh crore, released on 31st May 2021. Nominal GDP in the year 2021-22 is estimated at ₹232.15 lakh crore, as against the Provisional Estimate of GDP for the year 2020-21 of ₹197.46 lakh crore.

Winter Olympics-bound Md Arif Khan included in Target Olympic Podium Scheme

The Sports Ministry’s Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) has approved the inclusion of Alpine Skiing athlete Md Arif Khan in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) Core group, until the Winter Olympics, scheduled this February in Beijing, China. Khan will take part in the Winter Olympics in the Slalom and Giant Slalom events.

India to surpass Japan as Asia's second largest economy by 2030

By 2030, India is expected to replace Japan as Asia's second-largest economy, surpassing Germany and the United Kingdom to become the world's No. 3 economy, according to IHS Markit. India is currently the world's sixth-largest economy, behind the United States, China, Japan, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

ReNew raises $400 million by issuing green bonds overseas

ReNew Energy Global Plc, one of India’s top renewable energy companies said that India Clean Energy Holdings, a Mauritian entity and a wholly owned subsidiary of ReNew, has raised $400 million at 4.5% by issuing senior secured dollar notes in the international market. ReNew is the most active international bond issuer from India, having so far raised $3.5 billion.

Aligning LCR norms for small biz accounts with Basel standards, RBI hikes funds cap by 50 %

The Reserve Bank has increased the threshold for deposits and other funds of non-financial small businesses by 50% to Rs 7.5 crore (from existing 5 cr) for the purpose of maintenance of Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR), with the aim to better align its regulations with Basel norms and also enable banks to manage liquidity risks more effectively.

Airtel Payments Bank on Thursday announced a collaboration with Park+ to offer FASTag-based smart parking solutions to marquee commercial and residential properties across the country.

The partnership aims to leverage the distribution reach and digital payments stack of Airtel Payments Bank to digitise the parking ecosystem using FASTag associated with the vehicle.

HDFC Bank starts online customs duty payment facility for customers

HDFC Bank's integration with Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) ICEGATE platform has gone live, allowing customers to pay for their customs duty directly via the bank. With this, the bank will offer customers the convenience of directly paying customs duty by selecting HDFC Bank. HDFC Bank said it has facilitated both retail and wholesale payments of customs

Justice Ayesha Malik to be Pakistan’s first woman Supreme Court judge

Pakistan on 6 Jan moved closer to appoint the first woman judge of the Supreme Court, after a high-power panel approved the elevation of Lahore High Court judge Ayesha Malik to the apex court.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) – headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed – approved Malik’s elevation by a majority of five votes against four.

Scientists explore Thwaites, Antarctica's 'doomsday' glacier

A team of scientists are sailing to "the place in the world that's the hardest to get to" so they can figure out how much and how fast seas will rise because of global warming eating away at Antarctica's ice.

The Florida-sized glacier has gotten the nickname the "doomsday glacier" because of how much ice it has and how much seas could rise if it all melts over the time.

Sidney Poitier, first black man to win Best Actor Oscar, dies

Bahamian-American actor Sidney Poitier, who won an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1964, has died at the age of 94.

In 1963, Poitier had made a film in Arizona, Lilies of the Field. The performance led to a huge milestone making him the first black winner of a lead-acting Oscar.

He was awarded the US Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009 by President Obama for his work.

Sea Dragon is a US-led multi-national exercise designed to practice and discuss Anti-submarine warfare tactics to operate together in response to traditional and non-traditional maritime security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region. India and its partners in the Quad along with Canada and South Korea are participating in the multinational exercise Sea Dragon at Guam.
