RBI deputy governor Michael Debabrata Patra reappointed for one year

Reserve Bank of India deputy governor Michael Debabrata Patra has been reappointed for a period of one year with effect from January 15, 2023.

The appointments committee of the cabinet approved it.

Patra, a career central banker since 1985, took over as the deputy governor on January 14, 2020.

UNICEF (YuWaah) and CSC Academy and recently completed training 50,000 young women in financial literacy through a blended learning program using the Passport to Earning (P2E) e-platform.

The young women were trained across the country with outreach and support from Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs), who are part of the Common Service Center (CSC) Academy network.

NASA appoints Indian-American space expert AC Charania as chief technologist

AC Charania, an India-American aerospace industry expert has been appointed as NASA‘s new chief technologist. He has been designated as principal advisor to Administrator Bill Nelson on programmes and technology policy at NASA’s headquarters.

AC Charania replaced Indian-American scientist Bhavya Lal, who served as acting chief technologist prior to the former's appointment.

India successfully carries out test launch of Prithvi-II missile

A successful training launch of a short-range ballistic missile, Prithvi-II, was carried out on January 10 from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha. "user training launch" successfully validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile, the defence ministry said.

The Prithvi-II missile has a range of around 350 kilometres.

Defence Ministry approves proposals worth Rs 4,276-cr for anti-tank, air defence missile systems

The Rajnath Singh-led Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) gave clearance for three capital acquisition proposals - two for the Indian Army and one for the Navy. All projects are under the Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured (IDDM) category.

The proposals include VSHORAD (IR Homing) missile system, Brahmos Launcher and Fire Control System (FCS).

Jadunama, a book written on veteran writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar by Arvind Mandloi, was released.

Gulzar unveiled "Jadunama", a coffee table book that draws its title from Akhtar's nickname Jadu.

Javed Akhtar is a recepient of Padma Shri (1999); Awadh Samman Uttar Pradesh (2001); the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Ekta Puraskar (2005); and the Padma Bhushan (2007).

France captain Hugo Lloris announces retirement from international football

France's World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris announced his retirement from international football at the age of 36.

The Tottenham goalkeeper made a record 145 appearances for France and captained Les Bleus as they won the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The goalkeeper made his international debut in 2008 and captained the team a record 121 times.

NABARD raises close to Rs 5,000 crore through three-year bonds

The coupon for the three-year bond was 7.63 per cent. The yield on government bonds with similar maturity was above 7.16 per cent.

30% women’s reservation bill approved by Uttarakhand governor
