Reserve Bank of India deputy governor Michael Debabrata Patra has been reappointed for a period of one year with effect from January 15, 2023.
The appointments committee of the cabinet approved it.
Patra, a career central banker since 1985, took over as the deputy governor on January 14, 2020.
Axis Bank signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to establish the Centre for Mathematics and Computing at the institute. The Centre will conduct research and development work on the foundations of mathematics and computing to accelerate innovation in the fields of artificial intelligence and data science.

AC Charania, an India-American aerospace industry expert has been appointed as NASA‘s new chief technologist. He has been designated as principal advisor to Administrator Bill Nelson on programmes and technology policy at NASA’s headquarters.
AC Charania replaced Indian-American scientist Bhavya Lal, who served as acting chief technologist prior to the former's appointment.
A successful training launch of a short-range ballistic missile, Prithvi-II, was carried out on January 10 from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha. "user training launch" successfully validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile, the defence ministry said.
The Prithvi-II missile has a range of around 350 kilometres.
The Rajnath Singh-led Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) gave clearance for three capital acquisition proposals - two for the Indian Army and one for the Navy. All projects are under the Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured (IDDM) category.
The proposals include VSHORAD (IR Homing) missile system, Brahmos Launcher and Fire Control System (FCS).

Hitachi Payment Services and BharatPe have received in-principle authorisation from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to operate as payment aggregators. In the first issue of fund raising through bonds in 2023, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has raised close to Rs 5,000 crore via three-year bonds. The coupon for the three-year bond was 7.63 per cent. The yield on government bonds with similar maturity was above 7.16 per cent.

The BIS Portal for mapping of Industrial Units and Laboratories was launched by Union Minister Piyush Goyal. It is a centralized platform for information on industrial units and laboratories across the country. This will enable analysis of test facilities in the country and help entrepreneurs in accessing information about testing facilities.
Stock exchange BSE has partnered with the Goa government to create awareness amongst SMEs in the state on the benefits of listing and also guide them on raising capital through equity infusion. BSE said it is the largest SME Exchange in India with 410 companies with a market cap of Rs 64,520 crore listed so far. The exchange was set up in March 2012.
