UAE names state oil giant ADNOC chief Sultan Jaber as President of COP28 climate conference

Sultan al-Jaber, the head of state oil giant ADNOC, would act as president of the COP28 climate conference it is hosting this year.

The UAE, a major OPEC oil exporter, will be the second Arab state to host the climate conference after Egypt hosted the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change's (UNFCCC) 27th Conference of the Parties (COP 27) in 2022.

FSSAI Notifies Comprehensive Regulatory Standards For Basmati Rice

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has specified the identity standards for Basmati Rice (including Brown Basmati Rice, Milled Basmati Rice, Parboiled Brown Basmati Rice and Milled Parboiled Basmati Rice) for the first time in the country.

These standards will come into force from August 1, 2023.

Exim Bank raises $1 bn via 10-yr sustainability bond issue

Export Import Bank of India bank has broken the international bond drought from India by raising $1 billion from investors across the globe. The issuance makes Exim Bank the first Indian issuer to open the markets for dollar and sustainability bond issuances in 2023. It has raised it via a 10-year Sustainability Bond under its Environmental Social Governance-ESG framework.

NCLT gives approval for merger of multiplex operators PVR and Inox

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved the merger of multiplex operators PVR and Inox, the two chains said in separate filings to the stock exchanges. On March 27, 2022, PVR and Inox, the country’s largest and second-largest cinema chains, had announced that they proposed to come together, which would result in a network of over 1,500 screens.

In a first, India among the top five ECM markets globally in 2022

India was among the top five markets, globally, in terms of equity fundraising despite the quantum of funds raised declining by 43 per cent. According to a report by Kotak Investment Banking, funds to the tune of $16.4 billion were transacted via equity capital market activity in India in 2022. Traditionally, India has rarely featured in the top 10 in terms of ECM activity.

SBI in partnership with National e-Governance Services launches e-Bank Guarantee

The country's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI), has launched e-Bank Guarantee (e-BG) facility by joining hands with National e-Governance Services Limited (NeSL). With the advent of e-BG, this function will be replaced by e-stamping and e-signature. Currently, the bank issues these guarantees with physical stamping and wet signatures.

Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) interest rate was hiked for January–March 2023 quarter

The government has hiked interest rate on Kisan Vikas Patra for the quarter January – March 2023. The Kisan Vikas Patra is a small savings tool that will make it easier for people to contribute to long-term savings plans. Deposits made into KVP accounts will now earn an interest rate of 7.2% annually compounded.

India, Japan hold joint exercise to promote air defence cooperation

India and Japan are holding the joint Air Exercise, ‘Veer Guardian-2023’ involving the Indian Air Force and Japan Air Self Defence Force (JASDF) at Hyakuri Air Base, Japan from 12th of January. Rehman Rahi, Kashmir's first Jnanpith awardee passes away

Professor Rehman Rahi, renowned poet and Kashmir's first Jnanpith awardee passed away at his residence in the Nowshera area of Kashmir. At the time of his death, the globally acclaimed poet was 98 years old. In 2007, he received the highest literary award in the country, the Jnanpith award for his collection 'Siyah Rood Jaeren Manz' (In Black Drizzle).
