PhonePe raises $350 Mn, joins India's decacorn club

Payments app PhonePe has raised $350 million in funding from global growth equity firm General Atlantic at a pre-money valuation of $12 billion.

The latest valuation has put the Bengaluru-headquartered startup in India’s decacorn club ( startups with a valuation of over $10 billion).

PhonePe also recently announced a full separation from the Flipkart Group.

Chris Hipkins becomes the 41st Prime Minister of New Zealand

New Zealand's former Covid-19 response minister Chris Hipkins will replace Jacinda Ardern as prime minister after receiving the only nomination from fellow MPs, the ruling Labour Party said.

Hipkins, currently the police and education minister, will take his party into an uphill battle to win general elections in October, as it lags in latest opinion polls.

G20: Bengaluru to host first environment meeting from February 9-11

The first G20 environment meeting under India's presidency will be held in Bengaluru from February 9 to February 11 with focus on restoration of degraded lands and ecosystems, biodiversity enhancement, strengthening of the circular economy, and promotion of blue economy along with coastal sustainability.

Vikram Dev Dutt appointed as next DGCA director general, to take charge on February 28

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Saturday approved the appointment of Vikram Dev Dutt as the next Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Dutt will take over the charge as the DGCA chief on February 28 after the superannuation of Arun Kumar, the incumbent DGCA chief.

Sh. Dutt was the last government-appointed Chairman & Managing Director of the Air India.

Wayanad becomes the first district in the country to provide basic documents and facilities such as Aadhaar cards, ration cards, birth/death certificates, election ID cards, bank accounts and health insurance to all tribespeople.

Wayanad district administration has attained this as part of the Akshaya Big Campaign for Document Digitisation which was introduced in Nov 2021.

Renowned Assamese poet Nilmani Phookan passes away at 89

Nilmani Phookan was one of the most celebrated poet of Assam and has been awarded the country’s highest literary award, the 56th Jnanpith for the year 2021.

He was awarded the 1981 Sahitya Akademi Award in Assamese for his poetry collection, Kavita (Kobita). He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1990.

India cenbank to guide inflation towards 4% target by 2024 – bulletin

The Reserve Bank of India’s 2023 monetary policy objective is to hold inflation within the mandated tolerance band and guide it towards the medium-term target of 4% by 2024, it said in its monthly bulletin published recently.

The government has mandated the central bank to keep inflation at 4 per cent with a +/- 2 per cent band.

Rawat had finished runner-up losing to Sourav Kothari (PSPB) in the final of the last edition.

Kerala announces maternity leave of 60 days for female students above 18 years

Higher Education Minister in Kerala R Bindu announced that girl students above the age of 18 years would get maternity leave of 60 days.

The required attendance percentage for female students will be 73%, including the menstrual leave, as against 75% earlier.

Earlier, Cochin University of Science and Tech announced to grant the of menstrual leaves to its female students.

Assam's Charaideo Maidam nominated for UNESCO world heritage tag

Maidams, the resting place of royal families of the Ahom era in Assam’s Charaideo district, will be India’s sole nomination for recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for 2023-24, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The ‘Maidams’ was first listed in the tentative list of UNESCO’s World Heritage site in April 2014.
