WHO report highlights significant impact of 'Har Ghar Jal' Program on Public Health and Economic Savings

The report, ‘Health impact of Jal Jeevan Mission', estimates that ensuring safely managed drinking water for all households in the country could avert nearly 4 lakh deaths caused by diarrheal diseases & prevent approximately 14 million Disability Adjusted Life Years(DALYs) related to these diseases.

This alone would result in estimated cost savings of up to $101 billion.

Food regulator FSSAI proposes new category for 'low alcohol' beverages

In a significant development, the food regulator, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), has created a category of “Ready to Drink” or low-alcohol beverages, having an alcohol content of 0.5-8 per cent.

In the same notification, it has laid down what should constitute “country liquor” or “Indian liquor” and the constituents that should go into its making.

SBI Ecowrap report: GDP growth revised to 6.5% for current FY

In its 'Ecowrap' research report, SBI said that domestic GDP growth is now on firm footing with urban demand showing good traction, while the lagging rural demand is a cause of concern. The apex bank has also revised GDP growth marginally upwards from 6.4% to 6.5 % for the current financial year.

Inflation for the current financial year has been pegged by 5.1%.

Army signs pact for procurement of ‘tactical LAN radio’ through Innovations for Defence Excellence(iDEX)

The Indian Army said it has sealed a deal with a Bengaluru-based M/s Astrome Tech Pvt Ltd, to procure the indigenously-developed “tactical LAN radio”.

The “tactical LAN radio” is a state-of-the-art high-bandwidth backhaul wireless radio equipment for the provisioning of reliable communication.

It is the second contract that the Army has firmed up under iDEX.

Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurates 2 CGHS centres in Panchkula, Chandigarh

Union minister of health and family welfare Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated two Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) Wellness Centres at Sector 29-C, Chandigarh, and Sector 16, Panchkula.

With this launch, the coverage of CGHS cities has expanded from 25 cities in 2014 to 80 in 2023.

S Korea, 4 other countries to join UNSC as non-permanent members

The United Nations General Assembly has elected Algeria, Guyana, Sierra Leone, Slovenia and South Korea to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for two-year terms starting on January 1, 2024, as non-permanent members.

These countries will replace Albania, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana and the United Arab Emirates.

OECD raises India's FY24 growth forecast a jot to 6%

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) moved its forecast on India's economic expansion for this fiscal year higher to 6%, from 5.9%, while citing weak global demand and the effect of monetary policy tightening as factors constraining the growth.

In FY25, it expects India's economic growth to pick up to 7%.

Sidbi ties up with the Niti Aayog to finance 50,000 EVs for MSMEs

SIDBI launched mission EVOLVE (Electric Vehicle Operations and Lending for Vibrant Ecosystem) in association with NITI Aayog, World Bank, Korean-World Bank and Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) to finance MSMEs in the EV space.

The new scheme seeks to finance 50,000 EVs.

Evolve is designed to support around 1.5 million EVs.

Haryana CM launches biennial Integrated Water Resources Action Plan (2023-25)

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched the biennial Integrated Water Resources Action Plan (2023-25) which aims to meet the twin challenges of water depletion and waterlogging.

Khattar said that the total water availability of the state is 20,93,598 crore litres whereas the total water demand is 34,96,276 crore litres.

Gitanjali Aiyar, one of India's first English female news presenters on national broadcaster Doordarshan, passed away.
