Gautam Adani's group acquires 50.50 per cent stake in news agency IANS

Gautam Adani increased his footprint in the media space when group flagship Adani Enterprises (AEL) announced the acquisition of a 50.50 per cent stake in news agency IANS India for an undisclosed sum. This is the conglomerate’s third acquisition in this segment.

Khelo India Games to be held in Tamil Nadu in January, 2024

Khelo India Games will be held in Tamil Nadu in January next year. The State Government said that the games will be held in Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Trichy from 19th to 31st January, 2024. More than 5,500 sports persons and over 1,600 coaches are expected to participate in the event. More than 1000 referees and 1200 volunteers will be part of the sporting event.

Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah has died at 86. Kuwait’s crown prince and his half-brother, Sheikh Meshaal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, 83, was subsequently named new emir. Sheikh Nawaf was sworn in in September 2020 after the death of his half-brother, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah

RBI imposes monetary penalty on 5 cooperative banks

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on December 14 said it has imposed a monetary penalty on five cooperative banks citing various rule violations. These cooperative banks are Mumbai-based Janakalyan Sahakari Bank, Pune Merchants Co-operative Bank, Pune Municipal Corporation Servant’s Co-operative Urban Bank, Indapur Urban Co-operative Bank and Patan Urban Co-operative Bank.

SBI invests ₹49.99 crore in Canpac Trends, eyes paper packaging industry

State Bank of India has executed transaction documents to purchase 3,70,644 shares (6.35 per cent) of Ahmedabad-based Canpac Trends Private Limited at ₹1,349 per share, aggregating ₹49.99 crore. The Bank, in an exchange filing, said the investment in Canpac Trends, which is in the paper packaging industry, is being made with the objective of capital appreciation.
