Reaching zero: virtual forum on malaria elimination

Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare today chaired the “Reaching Zero” forum on malaria elimination.

The country has been able to achieve remarkable success in reducing the malaria burden in terms of cases by 84.5% and deaths by 83.6% which has been well recognized by World Malaria Reports of 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Intending to drive change, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, launched the STEM women scholars’ and researchers’ development (STEWARD) initiative focussed on mentoring women PhD research scholars at all levels.

Defence ministry to airlift 23 oxygen generation plants from Germany amid acute shortage

The defence ministry has decided to airlift 23 mobile oxygen generation plants from Germany as several states reeled under an acute shortage of medical oxygen.

In a separate move, the defence ministry has decided to give extension to 238 short service commissioned doctors in the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) till December 31 to tide over the current situation.

Each plant will have a capacity to produce 40 ltrs of oxygen/minute and 2,400 ltrs/hr.

Fifth Session Of Codex Committee On Spices And Culinary Herbs held

At the present session, the committee considered the quality Standards for dried or dehydrated forms of Ginger, Cloves, Saffron and two culinary herbs, Oregano & Basil at step seven, besides Nutmeg and Chilli peppers & Paprika at step four in the Codex procedure of elaboration of food standards.

First 'Oxygen Express' carrying 7 tankers reaches Maharashtra's Nagpur from Visakhapatnam

The first 'Oxygen Express' carrying liquid medical oxygen reached Maharashtra from Visakhapatnam. The Oxygen Express train is carried 100 tonnes of medical oxygen from Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) plant in Visakhapatnam.

It reached the destination, passing through Vapi, Surat, Nandurbar, Bhusawal, Akole, Nagpur, Gondia, Raipur and Titagarh.

NTT, TCIL team up for 5G, AI, submarine systems

Japanese telecom company NTT and India's Telecommunications Consultants of India Limited (TCIL) have come together to cooperate in the areas of fifth generation (5G) technology, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and submarine cable systems.

NTT will act as a technology provider for upcoming next generation (5G) networks.

Coal India signs first 100 MW solar power purchase agreement

In its maiden venture into solar power, state-owned miner Coal India Ltd (CIL) announced it had signed a first-of-its-kind power purchase agreement for the sale of 100 Megawatt (MW) solar power with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL).The tenure of the agreement period is for 25 years.

International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day -26 April

An explosion at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in 1986 spread a radioactive cloud over large parts of the Soviet Union, now the territories of Belarus, Ukraine and the Russian Federation. Nearly 8.4 million people in the three countries were exposed to the radiation.

In 2009 UN launched the International Chernobyl Research and Information Network (ICRIN).
