Infibeam gets nod to set up payments bank

E-commerce firm Infibeam has received shareholders’ approval to set up a payments bank and raise Rs. 2,000 crore.

It also got approval to change its name from Infibeam Incorporation Limited to “Infibeam Avenues Limited”.

India defeats Iran in the Kabaddi Masters Dubai 2018 championship

India defeated Iran 44-26 in the final to emerge as the Kabaddi Masters Dubai 2018 champion.

It was organised by International Kabaddi Federation in association with Star Sports and Dubai Sports Council.

Anjolie Ela Menon conferred the Kalidas Award

Artist Anjolie Ela Menon received the National Kalidas Samman for visual arts from the Madhya Pradesh government.

The award was conferred in recognition of her insightful and sensitive portrayal of the identity and spirit of women through her meaningful paintings in a variety of media.

Artist A. Ramachandran was also conferred with the Kalidas Award.

New sites under UNESCO World Heritage list

Seven ancient Korean mountain temples and a dozen Christian locations in parts of southern Japan selected for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

The Korean temples typify the way Buddhism emerged in the country with indigenous beliefs and styles. They were all established during the Three Kingdoms period that lasted until the 7th century AD.

Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahsa oasis, Oman’s ancient city of Qalhat also selected.

Niti Aayog, GNFC to use blockchain technology

NITI Aayog and Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (GNFC) signed a statement of intent (SOI) to work together towards using Blockchain technology for fertiliser subsidy management.

They will work on implementing a proof-of-concept (PoC) application for using the technology in subsidy disbursements.

Commander Abhilash Tomy to participate in Golden Globe Race 2018

Commander Abhilash Tomy of the Indian Navy is the only invitee from Asia to participate in the prestigious Golden Globe Race (GGR) that commences from Les Sables d’Olonne harbour in France.

He is representing India, sailing on an indigenously built sailing vessel ‘Thuriya’, a replica of Suhaili.

He is a recipient of the Kirti Chakra, Mac Gregor and Tenzing Norgay awards.

Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction 2018 (AMCDRR 2018) to be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in July, 2018.

The theme of the AMCDRR 2018: ‘Preventing Disaster Risk: Protecting Sustainable Development’ reflects the essence of the Sendai Framework.

The Government of India will also organize a side event during the AMCDRR 2018 on Cultural Heritage and Disaster Risk Management.

1st GST Day celebrated

Government of India celebrated the 1st GST Day on 1st July, 2018.

It marks the first anniversary of the new indirect tax regime.

GST was implemented with the motto ‘ONE NATION, ONE TAX, ONE MARKET’.

The GST was established to subsume various indirect taxes levied at different levels, with the idea of reducing red-tape, plugging leakages and paving the way for a transparent indirect tax regime.
A comprehensive IT system, GSTN, allots universal GST numbers (similar to PAN) to all manufacturers, traders, stockists, wholesalers and retailers.

FPI outflow hits 10-year high at Rs 48,000 crore

Overseas investors have pulled out nearly Rs 48,000 crore from Indian capital markets in the first six months of 2018.

A net sum of Rs 41,433 crore from the debt markets, besides, a net amount of Rs 6,430 crore from equities has been withdrawn.

PSLV to launch Australian satellite

10-kg nanosatellite Centauri I of Fleet Space Technologies would fly to space on a PSLV this year.

The satellite will establish a global network that will connect [75 billion] sensors and devices, for free.
