'Yoga for Humanity' is the Theme for International Day of Yoga 2022

Theme for the 8th edition of International Day of Yoga is "Yoga for Humanity." The Ministry of Ayush has chosen this theme for the 8th International Day of Yoga 2022, which will be held on June 21, 2022 in India and around the world. Mysuru, Karnataka, will host the main event of the IDY 2022 demonstration.

Govt extends PMEGP scheme till FY'26 with Rs 13,554 crore outlay

The government on Monday approved the continuation of the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) for five years from 2021-22 to 2025-26.

The outlay approved for the continuation of the scheme during the 15th Finance Commission cycle is Rs 13,554.42 crore.

Since its inception in 2008-09, about 7.8 lakh micro enterprises have been assisted.

Jharkhand to get WHO award for tobacco control

Recognising its efforts in controlling tobacco consumption, the World Health Organization (WHO) has selected Jharkhand for the World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) Award-2022.

NTCP was launched in Jharkhand in 2012 when the tobacco prevalence rate in the State was 51.1 per cent, of which 48 per cent were smokeless users, according to the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS)-1 report.

World Milk Day 2022: June 1

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations adopted June 1 as World Milk Day in 2001. The day is marked to recognise milk as global food and to celebrate the dairy industry.

The theme for World Milk Day 2022 is 'Dairy Net Zero' by cutting down the greenhouse gas emission of the industry over the next 30 years.

Canada introduces new legislation to ‘freeze’ handgun ownership

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced new legislation that his government says will usher in “some of the strongest gun control measures” in decades, including a “freeze” on the buying and selling of handguns in the country. A mandatory buyback program for "assault-style weapons" will go into effect later this year if the bill passes.

Indian Navy commissions ALH MK III aircraft built by INAS 325

Indian Naval Air Squadron (INAS) 325, operating the indigenously built ALH MK III aircraft, was commissioned into the Indian Navy by Lieutenant General Ajai Singh, AVSM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman & Nicobar at an impressive ceremony held at INS Utkrosh, Port Blair.

The unit is the second ALH MK III Squadron commissioned into the Indian Navy.

J&K National Panthers Party Chief Bhim Singh passes away

National Panthers Party Chief Professor Bhim Singh passed away at his residence in Jammu after a prolonged illness, officials said. He was 80.

Singh was the founder and Chief Patron of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP), a political organisation which seeks "ultimate revolution", based in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

India's economic growth estimated at 8.7% in FY22, Q4 GDP slows to 4.1%

India's GDP grew by 4.1% in the fourth quarter of FY22. Meanwhile, the overall growth recorded for the financial year 2021-22 is estimated at 8.7% as against the contraction of 6.6% in FY21.

The estimate of 8.7% for FY22 is the highest in 22 years in terms of back series data.

The nominal GDP grew by 19.5% in the financial year 2021-22.

Greenko commences construction of world’s largest integrated renewable energy storage project in Andhra Pradesh

Greenko Group, a Hyderabad-based clean energy firm, has initiated the construction of the world’s largest integrated RE storage project with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, performing the first concrete pour ceremony for the facility at Kurnool district.

The project is scheduled to get commissioned by the last quarter of 2023.

Twin Tropical Cyclones - 'Asani And Karim'

Centre releases Rs 86,912 crore to states, clears GST compensation dues

The central government has released Rs 86,912 crore to state governments, clearing all the Goods and Services Tax (GST) compensation due to them.

The Centre made the full payment despite only about Rs 25,000 crore being available in the GST compensation fund. The balance money has been paid from the Centre's own resources pending collection of cess.
