National Teachers’ Day: September 5

Every year on Sep 5 National Teachers’ Day is celebrated to honour teachers. This day was designated in 1962 to celebrate one the greatest teachers, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. National Teachers' Awards is conferred to celebrate contribution of teachers.

India Targets 100 MT Coal Gasification By 2030

India aims for 100 million tonnes (MT) coal gasification by 2030 with investments worth over Rs 4 Lakh Crores. Encouraging the use of clean sources on fuel, the government has provided a concession of 20% on a revenue share of coal used for gasification.

Govt caps key export benefit to Rs 2 crore per exporter till December

The government capped the benefits under the Merchandise Export from India Scheme (MEIS) at Rs 2 crore per exporter on exports made between September 1, 2020, to December 31, 2020, without changing the coverage of the scheme and the applicable rates.

The Assam Assembly passed a bill to protect, preserve and restore tangible heritage, which is currently not covered under any national or state law. Assam Heritage (Tangible) Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Maintenance Bill, 2020 was passed.

UN report flags changes in food system to boost climate action

According to the Enhancing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for Food Systems report published by UNEP, adopting diets and solutions for food loss can boost climate action by 25 per cent. The report identified 16 ways to address the issue.

India, Russia finalise AK-47 203 rifles deal

India & Russia finalised a deal for manufacturing AK-47 203 rifles in India during Defence Minister’s visit to Russia. AK-47 203 is the latest and most advanced version of the AK-47 rifle. Indian Army has a requirement for around 770,000 AK-47 203 rifles.

APIIC signs MoU with CSIR-IICT to establish a bulk drug park

IRDAI allows insurance companies to use video-based KYC

India’s Insurance regulator IRDAI is set to soon allow insurance companies to use video-based authentication modes to vet customer credentials for new onboardings. Insurers may use Video-Based Identification Process to enhance the ease of doing KYC.

Former England Cricketer David Capel dies aged 57

David Capel, the former England allrounder and stalwart of Northamptonshire as a player, captain and later coach. He became the first cricketer born in the county to play a Test for England in 77 years when he made his debut against Pakistan in July 1987.
