Raja Rithvik R becomes the 70th Grandmaster of India

Hyderabad’s promising R Raja Rithvik became chess Grandmaster after he crossed the ELO Rating of 2500. The 17-year-old achieved this GM title in Vezerkepzo Grandmaster Chess Tournament at Budapest, Hungary. He thus became the 70th Grandmaster from the country.

Raja Rithvik defeated FIDE Master Finek Vaclav of Czechoslovakia in 57 moves and reached the live rating of 2501.

Raninder Singh re-elected National Rifle Association of India chief

Raninder Singh was re-elected as the President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) - the governing body for the sport of shooting in the country at the elections held within the premises of Punjab Cricket Association.

In the election, Singh beat Shyam Singh Yadav — a BSP Member of Parliament by a margin of 56 to 3 votes in Chandigarh. NRAI was founded in 1951.

Sikkim Government Declares 'Copper Mahseer', Locally Called Katley, As State Fish

The Sikkim government has declared Neolissochilus hexagonolepis commonly known as Copper Mahseer and locally named as 'Katley' as a State fish to highlight the importance of the fish and to give emphasis to its conservation measures.In Sikkim, Katley is found in varied altitudes covering entire state predominantly confined in Teesta and Rangit rivers and their tributaries.

15th edition of INDO - NEPAL joint exercise SURYA KIRAN is commenced at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand

15th Edition of Indo - Nepal Joint Military Training, Exercise Surya Kiran between Indian Army and Nepali Army is commencing from 20 September 2021 at Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand).

The exercise aims to share experiences gained during the conduct of various counter-insurgency operations by both countries.

Proposed heritage village at Singaperumal Koil under Rurban mission to boost tourism

The Centre’s proposed plan to create a heritage village and boost tourism at Singaperumal Koil and nearby villages, about 40 km south of Chennai, is expected to give a much-needed fillip to the region’s development.

The government has sanctioned ₹25 lakh under the Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission based on the State government’s suggestion to promote heritage villages.

Former England Footballer Jimmy Greaves Dies Aged 81

Jimmy Greaves, one of England’s most prolific strikers and Tottenham Hotspur’s record goalscorer, has died at the age of 81.

Greaves, who suffered a stroke six years ago, scored 266 goals for Tottenham between 1961-1970 & his 37 league goals in the 1962-63 season remains a club record.He began his career with Chelsea and netted 124 league goals for the London club(1957-61).

Jhumpa Lahiri, the Pulitzer Prize-winning fiction writer, will highlight her work as a translator. Lahiri's 'Translating Myself and Others' will come out next spring.Lahiri has lived off and on in Rome for nearly a decade, and her translation projects include 'The Penguin Book of Italian Short Stories' and her novel 'Whereabouts', which she first wrote in Italian.

Punjab gets its first Dalit Chief Minister in Charanjit Singh Channi

Charanjit Singh Channi has been unanimously elected as the new Punjab Chief Minister.

Channi will replace Captain Amarinder Singh, who had resigned as the chief minister post recently after months of turmoil within the state unit.

He will be Punjab's first Dalit-Sikh chief minister.

He belongs to the Dalit community, which comprises almost 1/3rd of Punjab's population.

Govt to train 50,000 youths in 3 years under Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana

The government has launched Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana to empower youth by way of providing entry level training in industry relevant skills through Railway training institutes.The program was launched by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The training will be provided to 50,000 candidates over a period of 3 years. Initially, the training will be provided to 1000 candidates.

PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline extended to March 2022

PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline has yet again been extended by the Central Government. The deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar has been extended by six months to March 31, 2022 from the current deadline of Sept 30, 2021.There are 2 ways in which you can link your PAN with your Aadhaar card. One way is to do it via SMS & the other is to do it through the Income-Tax dept. portal.

CISF official Geeta Samota became the "fastest Indian" to summit two peaks located in Africa and Russia.Samota works with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), a central paramilitary force under the command of the Union home ministry.

While Mt Elbrus (5,642 mts) is in Russia, the Kilimanjaro peak (5,895 mts) is located in Tanzania and is Africa's highest peak.
