RBI cancels licence of Kolhapur-based Shankarrao Pujari Nutan Nagari Sahakari Bank

Shankarrao Pujari Nutan Nagari Sahakari Bank Limited, Ichalkaranji, Kolhapur is prohibited from conducting the business of 'banking' which includes, among other things, acceptance of deposits and repayment of deposits as defined in Section 5(b) read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 with immediate effect, the Reserve Bank of India said.

Cyclone Michaung Set To Make Landfall In Southeast India

Cyclone Michaung is set to make a landfall in southeast India. The storm is expected to cross the coast of Andhra Pradesh near Bapatla, with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90 to 100 kilometers (56-62 miles) an hour, gusting to 110 kilometers.

The cyclone is the sixth to develop in the Indian Ocean this year and fourth to form in the Bay of Bengal.

JT-60SA: World's biggest experimental nuclear fusion reactor inaugurated in Japan

JT-60SA, the world's largest and most advanced nuclear fusion reactor started its official operations in Japan's Ibaraki Prefecture.

JT-60SA is a joint initiative between the European Union and Japan.

The JT-60SA reactor is a six-storey-high machine, which is kept in a hangar in Naka north of Tokyo.

Meghalaya's Lakadong turmeric gets Geographical Indication tag

Meghalaya's Lakadong turmeric has been awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.

Along with Lakadong turmeric, Garo Dakmanda (traditional dress), Larnai pottery and Garo Chubitchi (alcoholic beverage) were also awarded the GI tag.

Lakadong is found in Lakadong area of Jaintia Hills.

Jimmy George Award for Sreeshankar

Olympian M. Sreeshankar, the long jump silver medallist in the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, has won the 35th Jimmy George Foundation Award for the best sportsperson of Kerala.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a plaque.

The award will be presented to Sreeshankar at the Jimmy George Sports Academy at Peravoor, Kannur, on December 22.

SBI to acquire 20 per cent stake in SBI Pension Funds for ₹230 crore

The Executive Committee of the Central Board (ECCB) of State Bank of India (SBI) has accorded final approval to the Bank for acquiring 20 per cent stake held by SBICAPS (SBI Capital Markets Ltd) in SBIPFPL (SBI Pension Funds Private Ltd).

The acquisition, which will be completed by December 15, 2023, is for a cash consideration of ₹229.52 crore.
