App will help voters to share malpractice proof

Election Commission will launch a multi-lingual mobile application to share evidence of malpractice by political parties, their candidates and activists ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, directly with the electoral body.

An application called Model Code of Conduct Violation Reporting App was made available for the first time in Bengaluru in recently concluded Karnataka Assembly polls.

SBI posts a record loss of ₹7,718 crore

SBI facing largest-ever quarterly loss in the fourth quarter of 2017-18 due to bond losses and bad loans.

Net loss in the three months ended March 31, 2018, was ₹7,718 crore.

In the preceding quarter, the SBI posted a loss of ₹2,416 crore, while in the fourth quarter of 2016-17 it was ₹3,442 crore.

Air quality causes premature deaths’

As per the new study conducted in 11 north Indian cities, air quality worsening is one of the major reasons for high numbers of premature deaths.

“Know what you breathe” Report researched by IIT-Delhi in collaboration with environmental NGO Centre for Environment and Energy Development (CEED)

Annual mortality is in range of 150-300 persons per 1 lakh population.

Kanpur recorded the highest number of premature deaths per year (4,173) due to chronic exposure to air pollution.

Rajasthan launches ‘Nidaan’ software for disease monitoring

A new software, ‘Nidaan’, has been launched in Rajasthan for presumptive diagnosis and monitoring of seasonal and non-communicable diseases as well as the trends of ailments found in specific areas.

It is expected to help in the formulation of specific action plans for control of diseases.

“Nidaan” will facilitate online entries of as many as 46 diseases and healthcare services available for their treatment in different institutions.

Mumbai-Pune e-way

Motorists using Pune Expressway will now have to pay the toll till 2045.

The earlier deadline for toll collection was 2030.

Toll period is being increased by 15 years to fund the ‘missing link’ project.

The project involves the construction of a 13.3-km-long road and link will shorten the distance between the two cities by six kilometers.

According to the government’s toll policy, the toll is revised every three years at 6% per annum.

Three tokay geckos were seized from West Bengal’s Malda and Murshidabad districts.

The tokay gecko is a lizard species with orange-spotted blue-grey skin, is protected under the Schedule III of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act.

Ola to expand in Australia

Indian cab-hailing firm Ola to expanded its services in Australia to three more cities — Brisbane, Gold Coast and Canberra.
