Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde has sworn in as the 47th Chief Justice India. He administered oath by President Ram Nath Kovind. Justice Bobde who hails from Maharashtra will have a tenure of over 17 months as the CJI and is due to retire on April 23, 2021.
Justice Bobde succeeds Justice Ranjan Gogoi.
Indian armed forces are procuring US defence equipment worth over $7 billion including Sea Guardian armed drones & naval spy planes. Another deal is the project for the acquisition of the 10 P-8I anti-submarine warfare & long-range surveillance aircraft.
US had approved the sale of armed drones to India in June 2019.
Gotabaya Rajapakasa has been sworn-in as new President of Sri Lanka. Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was present on the occasion. Gotabaya claimed the presidency with a comfortable 52.25% majority over his closest rival Sajith Premadasa.
He is the 7th Executive President of Sri Lanka.
The 6th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus will be held in Bangkok on Nov 19. Rajnath Singh along with 17 other Defence Ministers of ADMM-Plus countries will attend the meeting. Singh held bilateral meetings with US Secretary of Defence Mark T Esper.
It was Singh’s first meeting with the US Secretary of Defence.
India sent more than 202,000 students to US in 2018-19, & became 2nd largest after China according to the ‘2019 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange'. China remained the largest source of foreign students for the 10th consecutive year.

Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan took oath as the thirteenth Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court succeeding Anirudh Bose. He was administered the oath of office by Governor Draupadi Murmi in a ceremony at Raj Bhawan. CM Raghuwar Daswas was present at the function.
Anirudh Bose was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court.
India’s first FASTag Car Park, which enables quick entry & exit from parking spots, has been launched at the GMR lead Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. In collaboration with NPCI dedicated lanes have been created at the entry & exit points at the RGIA.
GMR Group is an infrastructural company with HQ in New Delhi.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Pipraich Sugar Mill in Gorakhpur-a unit of UP Sugar & Sugarcane Development Corporation Limited. It is the North India's 1st sugar mill which will produce ethanol. Mill will create more employment among the youth.
Mill will produce more than 50,000 quintals of sugar every day.

Selay Soy (49kg) & Ankit Narwal (60kg) won silver among men.
Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas has won the ATP Finals on 17 Nov beating Austria's Dominic Thiem 6-7, 6-2, 7-6. This was the debut of Tsisipas in ATP Finals. The match, which was held at the O2 Arena in London, lasted for 2 hours and 36 minutes.
He had qualified for the finals after defeating Roger Federer.
Shiv Kapur faltered at the doorstep of victory as he hooked his drive on the closing Par-5 18th hole to hand Joohyung Kim from Korea, the Panasonic Open India Trophy. It was also only the 2nd time that a player other than an Indian had won the event.
