RBI cancels licence of Maharashtra-based Bhagyodaya Friends Urban Co-operative Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the licence of Maharashtra-based Bhagyodaya Friends Urban Co-operative Bank Limited due to inadequate capital.

On liquidation, every depositor is entitled to receive deposit insurance claim amount of his/her deposits up to a monetary ceiling of Rs 5 lakhs from the DICGC subject to the provisions of the DICGC Act, 1961.

National Panchayati Raj Day: 24th April

National Panchayati Raj Day is celebrated on April 24 every year & signifies the decentralization of power to the grassroots by the institutionalization of the Panchayati Raj through the Constitution (73rd Amendment) Act, 1992, which came into force on April 24, 1993.

At present, there are more than 2.6 lakh Panchayats in the countrywide three-tier system.

RBI restricts American Express Banking Corp, Diners Club International Ltd from adding new customers

Reserve Bank of India has imposed restrictions on American Express Banking Corp and Diners Club International Limited from adding new customers to their card networks from the 1st of May due to the non-compliance with the directions on Storage of Payment System Data.

PM Modi launches distribution of e-property cards under SVAMITVA scheme

Prime Minister launched SVAMITVA scheme for the entire nation.

SVAMITVA, Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas Scheme was launched by PM in April 2020 on a pilot basis in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Haryana, UP, Uttarakhand, MP and in selected villages of Punjab & Rajasthan. It is extended to cover around 6,62,000 villages of the nation.

World Youth Boxing Championships: Indian women boxers create history with seven gold medals

In the World Youth Boxing Championships, Indian women boxers created history with seven gold medals in Kielce, Poland.

All the women finalists Gitika, Naorem Babyrojisana Chanu, Poonam, Vinka, Arundhati Choudhary, T Sanamacha Chanu, and Alfiya Pathan registered their wins and finished on the top.

Apart from the eight finalists, three others won bronze medals.

Govt extends deadline for making payment under Vivad Se Vishwas scheme till June 30

Government has extended deadline for making payment under tax dispute resolution scheme Vivad Se Vishwas by two months till 30th of June.

The scheme provides for settlement of disputed tax, interest, penalty or fees in relation to an assessment or reassessment order on payment of 100 per cent of the disputed tax and 25 per cent of the disputed penalty or interest or fee.

US joins high-level India-Swedish group

The US has joined the India-Sweden climate initiative, the Leadership Group for Industry Transition, LeadIT.

LeadIT was set up by the governments of India and Sweden at the 2019 UN Climate Summit with the stated goal to enable collaboration between governments and industry.

South Korea, the UK, Germany, and France are among the group’s other member countries.

Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana takes oath as 48th CJI

Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana took oath as the 48th Chief Justice of India. President Ram Nath Kovind administered him the oath of office. He succeeds Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde.

Justice Ramana will have a tenure of nearly 16 months as the Chief Justice and is due to retire on 26th August next year.

RBI approves appointment of Atanu Chakraborty as part-time chairman of HDFC Bank

RBI has approved the appointment of former Economic Affairs Secretary Atanu Chakraborty as part-time chairman of HDFC Bank for a period of 3yrs w.e.f. May 5, 2021, or the date of his taking charge, whichever is later.

Once he is appointed as chairperson, HDFC Bank will be the second private sector lender to have a former bureaucrat at the post, ICICI being the first.
