Oscars 2021 Winners: Nomadland wins Best Picture, Anthony Hopkins and Frances McDormand take home Best Actor trophy

Chloé Zhao won Best Director, making her the second woman ever, to win the award. Nomadland also won the Best Picture award, as well as Best Actress for Frances McDormand. Anthony Hopkins, in an upset, won the Best Actor award for The Father.

Ann Roth became the oldest woman to win an Oscar. She won the Best Costume Design award for Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.

Government nominates economic affairs secretary Ajay Seth to RBI central board

The central government has nominated economic affairs secretary Ajay Seth in the Ministry of Finance as a director on the Central Board of Reserve Bank of India. Seth will replace the earlier nominee of government Tarun Bajaj who has been appointed as the revenue secretary.

RBI caps bank MD, CEO tenure at 15 yrs, puts upper age limit of 70 yrs

RBI capped the tenure of MD, CEO, and whole-time director (WTD) of private sector banks at 15 years and said the upper age limit for these posts will be 70 years.

The maximum age limit for chairman and non-executive directors (NED) has been fixed at 75 years. The total tenure of an NED, continuously or otherwise, on the board of a bank, shall not exceed eight years.

Amit Panghal wins bronze at Governor's Cup

India’s Amit Panghal (52kg) won the bronze medal at the Governor’s Cup in St Petersburg, Russia, after going down to world champion and familiar foe Shakhobidin Zoirov in the semifinals. The 23-year-old has been a consistent performer for the past three years, claiming gold medals at the Asian Games and the Asian Championships.

Rafael Nadal beats Tsitsipas, clinches 12th Barcelona Open title

Rafael Nadal beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 to win his 12th Barcelona Open title. It was Nadal’s 87th career title, and his 61st title on clay.

This is the second tournament where Nadal has captured 12 or more titles. The 13-time Roland Garros champion, will return to No. 2 in the FedEx ATP Rankings.

Former MD of Maruti Suzuki Jagdish Khattar dies

Former Managing Director of Maruti Suzuki and founder of Carnation Auto India, an automotive sales and service company, passed away. He was 78-years old.

He joined Maruti in 1993 as director of marketing and went on to became its MD in 1999, first as a government nominee and then in May 2002 as the Suzuki Motor Corporation nominee.

Project DANTAK is commemorating its Diamond Jubilee in Bhutan. Indian Ambassador to Bhutan Smt Ruchira Kamboj laid a floral wreath at the DANTAK Memorial in Simtokha.

DANTAK completed the road connecting Samdrup Jongkhar to Trashigang in 1968. In the same year, Thimphu was connected to Phuentsholing by DANTAK.

Madras high court blames Election Commission for surge in Covid cases

Madras high court observed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) was responsible for the second wave in the country and that its officials should probably be tried on murder charges for allowing political parties to hold massive rallies without following Covid-19 norms.

The first bench of chief justice Sanjib Banerjee and justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy warned ECI.

China names its first-ever Mars rover "Zhurong" after an ancient fire god

China has named its first-ever Mars rover "Zhurong" after an ancient fire god ahead of a landing attempt on the Red Planet in May.The China National Space Administration (CNSA) revealed the name at the sixth China Space Day held in Nanjing. Chinese name for Mars, "Huoxing," literally means "fire star."

DRDO develops single crystal blades for helicopter engines

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed single crystal blades that are used in helicopter engines and it has supplied 60 of them to the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the company's indigenous helicopter development program. The DRDO will develop total five sets (300 blades) of single crystal blades.

Mission Vayu: Amazon partners ACT Grants, Temasek to bring in 10,000 oxygen concentrators, BiPAP machines into India
