Thales appoints Ashish Saraf as Vice-President and Country Director for India

French defence and aerospace group Thales announced the appointment of Ashish Saraf as Vice-President and Country Director for India with effect from June 1, 2021.

In this role, Saraf will lead the company's India business and will be responsible for the strategic growth of Thales in the country across all of its markets.

England's Football Association named corporate executive and former RAC chief Debbie Hewitt as its first woman chair, ending months of speculation over Greg Clarke's successor following his exit over inappropriate remarks.

The FA, which was formed in 1863 and has been working to become more inclusive, launched its 'Pursuit of Progress' initiative in 2018.

Government gives nine-month extension to LIC chairman

The government has given a nine-month extension to LIC chairman M R Kumar till March next year in view of the insurer's proposed initial public offer towards the end of the current fiscal.

The initial public offer (IPO) of LIC would be floated in 2021-22 as part of the ambitious Rs 1.75 lakh crore disinvestment target.

The government owns 100 per cent stake in LIC.

Pran Vayu Devta Pension Scheme:-

Initiative to honour all those trees which are of the age of 75 years and above and have served humanity throughout their life by producing oxygen, reducing pollution.Village panchayats will now be paid Rs 2,500 as ‘pension’ per tree for their upkeep.

Oxy Van are identified pieces of land, on which as many as 3 crore trees would be planted.

RBI Deputy Governor Mahesh Jain gets two-year extension

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the re-appointment of Mahesh Kumar Jain, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), for two years with effect from June 22.

As a result, the central bank now has four serving RBI Deputy Governors. The other three serving deputy governors are Michael Patra, M Rajeshwar Rao and Rabi Sankar.

Russia is building its first full stealth naval ship

Central Govt to procure 75% of vaccines from manufacturers and provide it to States, UTs free of cost

The Central Government will procure 75%of the COVID vaccines produced by the vaccine manufacturers and distribute them to States and Union Territories. Domestic vaccine manufacturers can provide vaccines directly to private hospitals. This would be restricted to 25% of their monthly production.

The revised guidelines will come into effect from June 21, 2021.

In QS World University rankings 2022, eight Indian universities were in top 400. IIT-Bombay ranked 177th has fallen five spots from the previous edition. IT-Delhi (185th) and IISc (186th)

IIT-Madras (255th), IIT-Kanpur (277th), IIT-Guwahati made its debut among the top 400 this time, with a global rank of 395, bettering 75 positions from previous edition.

C M Udasi, the senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka passed away recently. Udasi was a sitting Member of Legislative Assembly from Hangal in Haveri District. He had served as public works minister in the B S Yediyurappa-led government in 2008.
