First consignment of GI-certified Jardalu mangoes from Bhagalpur exported to UK

The first commercial consignment of Jardalu mangoes from Bhagalpur, Bihar, was exported to the UK. With distinct aroma and taste, Jardalu mangoes from Bhagalpur received GI (Geographical Indications) certification in 2018.

A GI is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.

Did you Know

LIC CSL launches prepaid gift card in collaboration with IDBI Bank on RuPay platform

LIC Cards Services (LIC CSL) has launched a contactless prepaid gift card, ‘Shagun’, in collaboration with IDBI Bank on RuPay platform. Its aim is to expand the gift card market with an intent to promote cashless ways of gifting, thereby presenting a wide range of end-use choices.

NPCI partnered with LIC CSL & IDBI Bank for the launch of Shagun Gift Card on RuPay network.

CEO Satya Nadella appointed as Microsoft chairman

Microsoft Corp, named Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella as its new chairman.Nadella took over as the software giant's CEO in 2014, succeeding Steve Ballmer.The company also appointed former chairman John Thompson as lead independent director.

Nadella is credited with bringing new energy to the company, founded in 1975.

Govt launches 'Project O2 for India' to increase supply of medical oxygen

'Project O2 for India', an initiative of the Office of Principal Scientific Adviser, Government of India (GoI), aims to help stakeholders working to augment the country's ability to meet the rise in demand for medical oxygen.

IIT Ropar designs electricity-free CPAP device 'Jivan Vayu', capable of delivering high flow oxygen

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has developed a device that can be used as a substitute for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine. Dubbed as "Jivan Vayu", the machine can deliver high flow oxygen up to 60 Litres Per Minute (LPM).

The new device is the "first to be designed in India that functions even without electricity".

Union Cabinet approves 'Deep Ocean Mission' for use of sustainable renewable resources

Union Cabinet approved the proposal of the Ministry of Earth Sciences on 'Deep Ocean Mission', aiming to explore deep ocean for resources and develop deep-sea technologies for sustainable use of ocean resources.

The estimated cost of the 'Deep Ocean Mission' will be Rs 4,077 crore for a period of 5 years to be implemented in a phase-wise manner.
