Secretary at Indian Ministry of External Affairs Riva Ganguly Das attended EAS Senior Officials’ Meeting (EAS SOM) on 24 June.The virtual Meeting was chaired by Permanent Secretary of Brunei Darussalam H.E.,Emaleen Abdul Rahman Teo & saw participation of Senior Officials from 18 EAS countries.

EAS is a unique Leaders-led forum of 18 countries of the Asia-Pacific region.

Assam gets the world’s first Genetically Modified(GM) rubber sapling

The world’s first GM rubber plant was planted on the outskirts of Guwahati,Assam.

It is developed specifically for the northeast and is expected to flourish in the region’s climatic conditions.

The plant has additional copies of gene MnSOD (manganese-containing superoxide dismutase) in it and is expected to revolutionize natural rubber production in India.

AIFs can invest in securities of investee companies, units of other AIFs: SEBI

Markets regulator SEBI came out with a framework for alternative investment funds (AIFs) to invest simultaneously in units of other AIFs and directly in securities of investee companies.

This is subject to appropriate disclosures in the private placement memorandum (PPM) and with the consent of at least two-thirds of unit holders by value of their investment.

In 46 years, Odisha emerges as only state as home to all three species of crocodiles

Odisha has emerged the only state to have all the three species of the reptile freshwater Gharials at Satakosiya in Mahanadi, muggers in Bhitar Kanika National park and saltwater crocodiles.

For the first time,since the Gharials were introduced in the rivers of Odisha, back in 1975, the state has seen their natural nesting. As many as 28 hatchlings were spotted recently.

Rajnath Singh Reviews Project Seabird Work and construction progress of India's first Indigenous Aircraft Carrier(IAC) in Kochi.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Karwar Naval Base and reviewed the progress of ongoing infrastructure development under Project Seabird.

He also reviewed construction progress of IAC that has been built by Cochin Shipyard Ltd.

The IAC would be commissioned as INS Vikrant in the first half of 2022.

List of top 10 expensive cities mostly features global financial hubs like Hong Kong, which was the priciest last year, Tokyo, Shanghai, Zurich and Singapore.

Mumbai remains India’s most expensive city at 78th rank but has dropped 18 places in this year’s ranking.Other Indian cities on the list are New Delhi (117), Chennai (158), Bengaluru (170), and Kolkata (181).

The war room for animal welfare in Bengaluru which will provide aid to cattle breeders and dairy farmers to increase the health and productivity of livestock in the state.

This animal welfare war room has been set up at the Commissionerate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (CAHVS). The authorities have also set up an animal welfare helpline number at the CAHVS.

Virendra Nanavati elected as FINA Bureau member for the term of 2021-25.

India's Virendra Nanavati was elected as a member of International Swimming Federation (FINA) Bureau at the world body's General Congress held in Doha in Qatar.

Nanavati, who is currently a vice-president of Indian Olympic Association and executive director of Swimming Federation of India (SFI), is the first Indian to be elected as a Bureau member of the FINA.

India EV sales to grow at 26 per cent by FY23: Fitch

The recently announced electric vehicle (EV) incentives by India along with high fuel prices will be supporting factors for stronger adoption of EVs over 2020-2023,leading to an average annual growth rate of 26%.

The report however said the economic impact of Covid-19 pandemic and limited domestically produced EVs will prove a challenging barrier to overcome.

Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar launches LiDAR survey reports to augment water in forest areas

LiDAR-based reports mapping out the water requirement within forest areas in 10 states were released. These reports will be used to augment groundwater in forest areas so that animals don’t venture out in search of water.

The LiDAR (light detection and ranging) technology was used to create 3-D images of the project areas to recommend soil and water conservation structures.

India ranked 31 out of 46 countries on level of trust in news:Reuters Institute Digital News Report, 2021

Only 38% of the respondents from India said they trust news overall.

Finland had the highest levels of overall trust in news (65%) while the U.S. had the lowest levels of trust (29%).

This is the first time India features in the main report. It shows India is one of the strongest mobile-focused markets, with 73% of the respondents using smartphones to access news.

World Bank sanctions Rs 925 crore mortgage for second part of Rebuild Kerala Initiative
