NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant’s tenure extended by a year till June 2022

The Central government has decided to extend the tenure of NITI Aayog's chief executive officer Amitabh Kant by a year till June 30, 2022.This is the 3rd time that Kant's tenure has been extended. The 1980 batch IAS officer was appointed as the CEO of the government think-tank on February 17, 2016, for a fixed two-year term.He was later given an extension till 30 June 2019.

Centre pumps Digital India with additional ₹ 19,041 crore for BharatNet project

The Centre’s Digital India initiative through BharatNet PPP Model looks to connect each village in the country with broadband connectivity. The project is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement on August 15, 2020, to provide broadband connectivity to all inhabited villages in 1000 days. Moderna vaccine is first mRNA jab to get emergency-use nod in India

India approved a fourth Covid-19 vaccine, and its first mRNA vaccine, Moderna’s mRNA-1273, thereby clearing the path for importing foreign regulator-approved Covid vaccines to India without bridging clinical studies. Moderna vaccine which has 94.1 percent efficacy will be available here through its Indian partner Cipla.

US appoints Indian-American diplomat Atul Keshap as interim envoy to India

The US has appointed Indian-American career diplomat Atul Keshap, an old India-hand at the state department, as the country's Charge'd Affairs in Delhi. He most recently served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs and as the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives.

During the meeting, Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) plans of Ministries and their CPSEs, status of implementation of budget announcements & measures to expedite infrastructure investment were discussed.

Smt. Sitharaman said that the Budget for Financial Year 2021-22 provided a capital outlay of Rs. 5.54 lakh crore, a sharp increase of 34.5% over the Budget Estimate of 2020-21.

Glacial Lake Atlas will utilize In Carrying Out Climate Change Impact Analysis And Disaster Mitigation Planning. The current glacial Lake Atlas is based on the Ganga River Basin inventory lakes to the foothills of the Himalayas covering an area of 2.47.109 sq. km.

The Ganga River Basin research section encompasses part of India and the cross-border area.

Justice Ravi Vijaykumar Malimath appointed as the acting chief justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court

An official statement citing a notification issued by the Department of Justice said that Justice Malimath, the senior-most judge of Himachal Pradesh High Court, will perform the duties of the office of the chief justice of that high court with effect from July 1.

Chief justices and judges of the 25 high courts retire at the age of 62 years.
