The National Sports Day is celebrated on 29th August every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.

On 6th of August, the Government had announced that India’s highest sporting honour Khel Ratna Award has been named as Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in the honour of the hockey wizard.

Bhavina Patel settles for Silver medal, becomes first Indian table tennis player to enter finals at Tokyo Paralympics

India’s Bhavina Patel has settled for Silver medal in the table tennis event at Tokyo Paralympics. Bhavina lost to China’s Ying Zhou in the final.

She had entered the final beating China’s Zhang Miao in a closely-contested semi-final match.

Bhavina scripted history by becoming the first Indian table tennis player to enter the final in the Paralympics.

Arvind Kejriwal inaugurates India's first smog tower in Delhi

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated India's first smog tower in Delhi's Connaught Place that will purify 1,000 cubic metres of air per second within a radius of around 1 km.

The tower has been set up as a pilot project and initial trends will be available within a month.

If the pilot project is successful, more smog towers will be installed in the national capital.

Cabinet Committee approves sugarcane FRP at Rs 290 per quintal for 2021-22

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the Fair and Remunerative Price of sugarcane for sugar season 2021-22 (October-September) at Rs 290 per quintal for a basic recovery rate of 10%.

This will provide a premium of Rs 2.90/qtl for each 0.1% increase in recovery over and above 10%, and reduction in FRP by Rs 2.90/qtl for every 0.1% decrease in recovery.

The RBI has imposed a penalty of Rs 15 lakh on The Baghat Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, Solan, for violation of certain norms, including, those related to NPA classification.

RBI has imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on Delhi Nagrik Sehkari Bank Limited, New Delhi, for non-compliance with certain directions issued by the central bank.

BharatPe forays into consumer lending, investment space with ‘12% Club’

Fintech firm BharatPe forayed into the consumer space with the launch of 12% Club, which will work in the areas of consumer lending and investments.

With 12% Club consumers will have an option to invest and earn up to 12% annual interest or borrow at a competitive interest rate of 12%.

BharatPe has partnered with the RBI-approved NBFCs to offer these services to consumers.

The government had announced the new drone rules and invited comments from stakeholders and the industry.

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has been given the additional charge of Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

Earlier, V P Singh Badnore was the Governor of Punjab and the Administrator of Chandigarh.

The President has also appointed Purohit as the Administrator of Chandigarh, in addition to his duties as the Governor of Punjab.
