The 5th edition of the bilateral maritime exercise JIMEX, between Japan and India, was conducted in the Arabian Sea. The exercise saw the ships and aircraft of Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) and Indian Navy (IN) engaging in a high tempo of operations focused on air, surface, and sub-surface dimensions of maritime operations as well as the air domain.
To coincide with the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, on 2nd October 2021, the office of DC (H) inaugurated Samarth training at 75 training centers in different craft throughout the country. The Samarth training is providing skill training to the 2,250 artisans as well as extending wage compensation of Rs. 300 per day per trainee at these centers.
The wage compensation to successful trained artisans is paid through DBT mode.
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Shri Sarbanand Sonowal launched a port mobile application called MyPortApp in Kolkata. The app has various information like Vessel Berthing, Rake & Indent, Rake Receipt, Container Status, Tariff, Bills, Port Holidays, etc., and can be accessed anywhere 24x7 and reach out directly to the port.
The App includes all port details digitally and monitors operations virtually.
Minister of State for Railways and Textiles dedicated a new version of the ‘Mile Sur Mera Tumhara’ song to the Nation through video conferencing. This song is part of the initiatives being undertaken by the Ministry of Railways to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence- Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The new version of this song has been prepared by Railway employees and officers.
National Mission of Clean Ganga (NMCG) has signed an MoU with Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Institute (WASH Institute) to conduct a series of training to enhance the quality of service of officials in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). This MoU is also to efficiently address FSSM issues in towns and cities of the Ganga Basin.
The project will be funded by USAID and supported by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The event was organized by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in partnership with Hansraj College, Delhi to raise awareness on Mental Health as part of the activities being taken up during ongoing Mental Health Awareness Week, 5th-10th October.

Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying launches a nationwide River Ranching Programme in Uttar Pradesh. “River ranching program” is introduced as a special activity under the PMMSY scheme for augmenting and enhancing fish production and productivity through expansion, intensification, diversification, and productive utilization of land and water.

International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) and GIFT City launched I-Sprint’21, the global FinTech Hackathon Series of IFSCA. The first Sprint of the series “Sprint01: BankTech” is focussed on FinTechs for the Banking sector. The Partners to the Hackathon are ICICI Bank, HSBC Bank, iCreate, Zone Startups, and Invest-India.
BankTech is hosted jointly by IFSCA and GIFT city in collaboration with NITI Aayog.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) - empowered Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism (AISAM) approved the highest price bid of M/s Talace Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of M/s Tata Sons Pvt. Ltd for sale of 100% equity shareholding of Government of India in Air India along with equity shareholding of Air India in AIXL and AISATS.
The winning bid is for Rs 18,000 crore as Enterprise Value (EV) consideration for AI.
The valedictory ceremony of the Wildlife week which is being celebrated under the theme ‘संरक्षण का संकल्प - एक जन भागीदारी (a conservation collective)’ was held at National zoological Park Delhi. Both sides to set in motion concrete action plans for driving clean energy transition in Power Sector.
October 9 is marked as the World Post Day to commemorate the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union way back in 1874. The remembrance of the World Post Day came into effect in 1969 at the Universal Postal Union Congress held in Tokyo in 1969.
In 2021, the theme for the event has been decided to be ‘Innovate to Recover’.
