International Day of the Girl Child | 11 October

On December 19, 2011, United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child, to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.

In 2021, the Generation Equality Forum launched five-year commitments for bolder solutions to gender inequality.

India Slips Six Ranks on Henley’s Passport Index

India's rank has slipped by six places from last year to 90 on the Henley Passport Index, which lists the world's most travel-friendly passports.

The rankings are based on the survey of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) data. India, which held the 84th rank last year, fell six places to the 90th rank.

The index covers 227 destinations and 199 passports.

The President of India appointed Meghalaya High court Judge, Justice Ranjit Vasantrao More as the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.

He is a native of the Satara district in Maharashtra.

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Ranjit Vasantrao More as Chief Justice.

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurates Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre

Vice-President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu, who is in Guwahati as part of his Northeast tour, inaugurated the Mahabahu Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre in presence of Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Panbazar in Guwahati.

This centre has on display the heritage of boats, an amphitheatre, an exhibition space, a cafeteria.

Dementia is a neurological illness that affects a person's ability to perform activities of daily living and creates a loss in memory.

Ex-diplomat V.M.M. Nair passes away

Vallilath Madhathil Madhavan Nair, the oldest living former diplomat of India, passed away, two days short of his 103rd birthday. He is survived by wife Krishnakumari.

Mr. Nair joined the Indian Civil Service or the ICS in 1942 and was allotted to the Bihar Cadre. He was permanently seconded to the Indian Foreign Service on November 1, 1944.

He was born on October 8, 1919. He retired from the IFS in the late 1970s.

India, Croatia collaborate for academic research in traditional medicine systems

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) & Croatia’s Kvarner Health Tourism Cluster. AIIA is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Ayush.

The MoU with Croatia is a significant step towards bolstering India’s ties with other countries and promoting academic research, clinical & educational activities, medical education,etc.

Jal Jeevan Mission: 43% households have tap connection till now, 100% coverage in 6 states/UTs

About 43 per cent rural households have been provided with tap water connections till date under the Jal Jeevan Mission with 100 per cent homes in six states and Union Territories having tap water supply.

However, in seven states and UTs, less than 25 per cent households have tap water supply.

Microsoft acquires Ally.io, OKR startup that raised $76 million

Microsoft has acquired Ally.io, a SaaS startup headquartered in Seattle with a centre in Chennai, and founded by Vetri Vellore for an undisclosed value. Founded in 2017, Ally has built a technology platform in the space of goal setting and business execution software or what is commonly called as Objectives and Key Results (OKR) segment.
