RailTel and C-DOT sign MoU to expand telecom services in India

RailTel Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) to work together in several areas to help expand telecom in the country.

RailTel works under the Ministry of Railways while the C-DoT is a research centre that operates under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

Andhra Pradesh Launches Its First-Ever Project Under PM-WANI Scheme

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, TESS and TERA, the first Public Data Office Aggregator (PDOA) and App Provider of Andhra Pradesh have been inaugurated under the brand name Wi-DOT.

Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy formally inaugurated the PM-WANI (Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) Project at Uyyalawada village in Kurnool district.

SEBI forms 4-member high powered advisory committee on settlement orders

SEBI has constituted a four-member high powered advisory committee on settlement orders and compounding of offences.

The committee will be chaired by Vijay C Daga.

The other members of the panel are - former law secretary in Ministry of Law & Justice, PK Malhotra; ex-Chairman of Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP PR Ramesh and DN Raval, Partner at Raval & Raval Associates.

Microsoft shutting down LinkedIn app in China amid scrutiny

Microsoft is shutting down its main LinkedIn service in China later this year after internet rules were tightened by Beijing.

LinkedIn will replace its localized platform in China with a new app called InJobs that has some of LinkedIn’s career-networking features but “will not include a social feed or the ability to share posts or articles.”

RBI's fourth regulatory sandbox cohort on financial frauds

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will open the fourth cohort under the Regulatory Sandbox (RS) on prevention and mitigation of financial frauds.

The central bank has so far introduced three cohorts. Six entities have successfully exited the first cohort on ‘Retail Payments’ while under the second cohort on ‘Cross Border Payments’, eight entities are undertaking tests.

IFSCA introduced a framework for “Regulatory Sandbox” in October 2020.

RBI imposes fine of Rs 1.95 crore on Standard Chartered Bank over non-compliance

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a fine of Rs 1.95 crore on the Standard Chartered Bank for failing to report a cyber security incident within the prescribed time period, and failure to credit the amount involved in unauthorised electronic transactions, among other reasons.

RBI also imposed Rs 1 crore penalty on State Bank of India.

NITI Aayog Launches Geospatial Energy Map Of India, Provides Detailed View Of Energy Production And Distribution

NITI Aayog in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has developed a comprehensive Geographic Information System (GIS) Energy Map of India with the support of energy ministries of the Government of India.

RBL Bank working on Abacus 2.0 for digital engagement, customer acquisition

Private sector lender RBL Bank is working on a new digital platform that would help scale up customer acquisition over the next few years.

Called Abacus 2.0, it would enable the bank to provide products and services to new as well as existing customers digitally.

The bank has about 40 lakh customers in branch banking and credit card as of June 30, 2021.

Indian Navy receives its 11th Boeing P-8i aircraft; to boost anti-submarine operations in Indian Ocean Region

The Indian Navy has received the 11th anti-submarine warfare aircraft P-8I from the US-based aerospace company Boeing.

The Defence Ministry had first signed a contract for eight P-8I aircraft in 2009.

Later, in 2016, it signed a contract for four additional P-8I aircraft.The Indian Navy had received the 10th P-8I aircraft in july this year .

Varanasi To Become First Indian City to Start Ropeway Service in Public Transportation

Varanasi, the PM Modi’s parliamentary constituency, will soon become the first Indian city to use ropeway services in public transportation.

The world’s third (After Bolivia and Mexico city) and India’s first public transport ropeway is proposed to be constructed from Cantt Railway Station (Varanasi Junction) to Church Square (Godauliya) to ease the traffic congestion.
