World Diabetes Day - November 14

World Diabetes Day (WDD) was created in 1991 by International Diabetes Foundation(IDF) and the World Health Organization in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by diabetes.

It is marked every year on 14 November, the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin along with Charles Best in 1922.

The facility at Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) in Lucknow, run by Aellroy Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of PTC industries, will manufacture parts for Aircraft Engines, Helicopter Engines, Structural parts for aircrafts, Drones and UAV, Submarines, Ultra-Light Artillery Guns, Space Launch Vehicles and Strategy Systems etc.

National Sports Awards 2021:Arjuna award and Dronacharya award

India this year honoured 35 Arjuna awardees and a total of 10 coaches were conferred with the Dronacharya awards this year. Some Arjuna awardees include Shikhar Dhawan, CA Bhavani Devi(Fencing), Olympic bronze-winning men's hockey team and other medal winners from Paralympic Games.

India, Sri Lanka revive Parliament Friendship Association

India- Sri Lanka Parliamentary Friendship Association for the 9th Parliament of Sri Lanka was established at the Parliament complex in the presence of Speaker of Parliament, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana.High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay was also present.

The association existed in the past & is being revived for the current Parliament,elected in August 2020.

IIT Bombay team wins $250,000 XPrize, Elon Musk Foundation grant at COP26

Four students and two teachers from IIT Bombay have won a grant of US$250,000 (approximately ₹1.85 crore) for the new-age technology at the Sustainable Innovation Forum at COP-26 in Glasgow.

They won the prize for developing a technology that can remove carbon from the atmosphere and turn them into salts.

South Korea tests system for controlling air taxis

South Korea demonstrated a system for controlling urban air mobility vehicles (UAM) which it hopes will serve as taxis between major airports and downtown Seoul as soon as 2025, cutting travel time by two-thirds.

A pilot flew a two-seat model made by Germany's Volocopter at Seoul's Gimpo Airport to test and demonstrate its control and coordination.

F.W. de Klerk, South African president who oversaw end of apartheid, dies at 85

Former president of South Africa, Frederik Willem (FW) de Klerk, passed away recently. He won praise worldwide for his role in scrapping apartheid and shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Mandela in 1993.

The following year Mandela won South Africa's first multi-racial elections with his African National Congress (ANC).

India & France's infantries to collaborate in counter-terror army exercise EX SHAKTI 21

India and France carry out three biennial training exercises namely, Exercise GARUDA with Indian Airforce, Exercise VARUNA with Indian Navy and Exercise SHAKTI with Indian Army.

The 6th Edition of the biennial training exercise “EX SHAKTI 2021” is being conducted from 15 to 26 November 2021 in Frejus, France.

Maharashtra signs MoU to boost adoption of electric vehicles(EVs)

Maharashtra government signed an MoU with the Indian arm of the USA-based Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) to support adoption of EVs in Maharashtra.

The MoU was signed in Glasgow amid the ongoing COP26 summit.

Maharashtra’s new draft Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2021 aims to bring at least 146,000 new battery-operated electric vehicles (BEVs) on state roads by 2025.

BSE joins hand with All India MSME Association(AIMA MSME) to promote listing of MSMEs

Through this pact, AIMA MSME will assist BSE in evaluating MSMEs and startups for listing on the exchange's SME platform while also sensitising its investor network for investing in listed MSMEs.

The two entities will host joint roadshows and events across the country to raise awareness among micro,small & medium enterprises for listing on the exchange's SME segment.

BharatPe to launch Merchant Shareholding Program(MSP) for its merchant partners.

BharatPe will be rolling out this MSP to its 7.5 million+ existing merchant partners and extend this to new merchants who join it.

It plans to create an equity pool structure worth upto $100 mn for MSP to be allotted to eligible merchants over the course of the next 4 years. The company is aiming that the MSP pool will be worth close to $ 1bn by the time it goes public.

Tata Projects bags $120mn(around Rs.900 crores) order for power transmission project in Bangladesh

Tata Projects Limited has received an order for a 400kV double circuit transmission line project valued at around $120 million from the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited.

This 120-km project from Barapukuria to Bogura has been secured on a turnkey basis. It will be executed in 30 months & the funding will be by EXIM Bank India under the Indian Line of Credit.
