Sidbi joins hands with Google to help MSMEs

Small Industries Development Bank of India (Sidbi) has entered into a partnership with Google India Pvt Ltd (GIPL) for piloting a social impact lending program with financial assistance up to ₹1 crore at competitive interest rates to MSMEs.

This partnership with GIPL brings a corpus of $15 million (around ₹110 crores) to MSMEs as a crisis response related to Covid-19.

RBI authorises RBL Bank to collect direct taxes

RBL Bank has been authorised by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), based on a recommendation from the Controller General of Accounts, Ministry of Finance and Government of India (GoI), to collect direct taxes on behalf of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

RBL Bank, formerly known as Ratnakar Bank - It is an Indian private sector bank headquartered in Mumbai.

Western Naval command conducts exercise prasthan in western offshore development area

An offshore security exercise, code-named ‘Prasthan’ was conducted in the Offshore Development Area (ODA) off Mumbai by the Western Naval Command (WNC). The exercise provided all stakeholders a realistic scenario to assess their readiness to respond to and combat contingencies in the Western ODA, as also to operate together in a coordinated manner.

There is hesitation about receiving anti-coronavirus vaccines in Muslim-majority communities, and the government will enlist the help of Bollywood actor Salman Khan to persuade people to get the vaccine.

Malayalam author M Mukundan wins JCB Prize for Literature 2021 for ‘Delhi: A Soliloquy’

Author M Mukundan has received the JCB Prize for Literature 2021 for his novel Delhi: A Soliloquy.

The novel, published by Westland Books, was originally written in Malayalam and was translated into English by Fathima EV and Nandakumar K.While Mukundan will receive a prize amount of Rs 25 lakh, Fathima and Nandakumar will receive an amount of Rs 10 lakh.

World Toilet Day : November 19

World Toilet Day is observed on November 19 every year, to bring awareness about the importance of toilets and sanitation in our lives.

World Toilet Day was an initiative of a certain Jack Sim from Singapore, who founded the World Toilet organisation NGO in the year 2001.

It was his idea to use the day to raise awareness about the importance of sanitation and hygiene.

India received $87 bn in remittances in 2021; US biggest source of funding

According to World Bank report, India received USD 87 bn in remittances in 2021, and the US was the biggest source, accounting for over 20% of these funds. India is followed by China, Mexico, the Philippines, and Egypt.

Flows to India (the world's largest recipient of remittances) are expected to reach USD 87 billion, a gain of 4.6% with the severity of COVID-19 caseloads.
