India's Harnaaz Sandhu becomes Miss Universe 2021, brings the crown home after 21 years

Punjab-based Harnaaz Sandhu, who represented the country at the 70th Miss Universe 2021, has won the title. Harnaaz, 21, won the Miss Universe crown 21 years after Lara Dutta won the title in 2000.

At the contest held in Eilat, Israel, she beat contestants Paraguay and South Africa. Andrea Meza, former Miss Universe 2020 from Mexico, crowned Harnaaz at the event.

Madhya Pradesh government organises first drone fair at Gwalior

In Madhya Pradesh, the first drone fair in the country was organised at Gwalior. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was addressing the youths and farmers present at the "Drone Mela" in Gwalior.

Around 20 companies displayed their drones in the fair.

Agriculture drone technology is also playing an important role in the Swamitva Yojana being run in the state.

Cabinet approves extension of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin(PMAY-G) till March 2024

PMAY-G has been granted an extension beyond March 2021 and till March 2024.

The continuation of the scheme ensures the remaining 155.75 lakh households within the overall target of 2.95 crore houses under PMAY-G will be provided assistance for the construction of pucca houses with basic amenities to achieve the objective of ‘Housing for All' in rural areas.

Cabinet approves Ken-Betwa river linking project at cost of Rs 44,605 crore.

A proposal of this effect was approved in the meeting of the Cabinet chaired by PM Modi.

A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) called Ken-Betwa Link Project Authority (KBLPA) will be set up to implement the project.

Under the Ken-Betwa link project, water will be transferred from Ken to Betwa river through the construction of Daudhan Dam and a canal linking the two rivers.

PM Modi to inaugurate Kashi-Vishwanath Dham project in Kashi

Prime Minister will inaugurate phase-1 of the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham project, which is constructed at a cost of Rs 339 crore. PM Modi laid the foundation stone for this project on March 8, 2019.

The corridor was conceptualized to create an accessible pathway to connect the pilgrimage site to banks of the Ganga river.A total of 23 buildings will be inaugurated in Phase 1

Indian SaaS companies are poised to reach $30 billion in revenue: Report by Bain & Company

Indian Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) companies are poised to reach $30 billion in revenue, capturing 8% to 9% share of the global SaaS market by 2025, according to a new report by Bain & Company.

The report said that investments in the space increased by 170% over 2020 and are expected to reach $4.5 billion in 2021.

India has the third-largest SaaS ecosystem globally.

BrahMos air version tested, ready for serial production

India flight-tested the air version of supersonic cruise missile BrahMos from a fighter aircraft(Sukhoi 30 MK-I) off Odisha coast paving the way for its serial production.

The 8.4 metre long BrahMos missile, the fastest in the world, can carry conventional warhead up to 300 kg. It can cruise at the supersonic speed of Mach 2.8.

Grofers rebrands as Blinkit

E-grocery unicorn, Grofers has rebranded itself as Blinkit.

The rebranding comes just months after Grofers pivoted to 10-minute groceries earlier in August 2021 and initially launched the service across the top 12 Indian cities.

Grofers had recently attained unicorn status or $1billion in valuation.

Olympian Arvind Singh wins gold in Asian Rowing C'ship at Ban Chang, Thailand.

India's Arvind Singh won the gold in the Lightweight Men's Single Sculls at the Asian Rowing Championship beating his opponents with a time of 7:55.942s.

India ended the championship on a strong note, winning two gold and four silver medals.

In lightweight men's double sculls, Ashish Phugat and Sukhjinder Singh won a silver with a timing of 7:12.568s

World unprepared for future pandemics: Global Health Security Index 2021

Countries across all income levels remain dangerously unprepared to meet future epidemic and pandemic threats according to the index.

USA, which was ranked first in the 2019 index, retained its position atop the rankings, with a score of 75.9, while Australia, Finland, Canada and Thailand rounded out the top five.

India with a score of 42.8 slipped 0.8 points since 2019.
