Kisan Diwas 2021: December 23

Kisan Diwas or National Farmers’ Day is celebrated across the nation on December 23 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the fifth Prime Minister of India, Chaudhary Charan Singh.

In addition, the day is celebrated in honour of the contribution of Indian farmers.

In 2001, the government of India declared December 23 as National Farmers’ Day.

IFFCO-TOKIO General Insurance appoints HO Suri as MD and CEO

IFFCO-TOKIO General Insurance announced the appointment of HO Suri as its new managing director and chief executive officer. Suri was the financial advisor, head, internal audit & legal, at the company and the new position took effect from October 1.

IFFCO-Tokio General Insurance Company Limited is a 51:49 joint venture between IFFCO and Japan's Tokio Marine Group.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati researchers have developed hybrid pervksite solar or photovoltaic devices in order to produce electricity from sunlight.

India Conducts Successful Test Of ‘Pralay’ Ballistic Missile Off Odisha Coast

India has successfully test fired short-range (350-500 km), surface to surface-guided ballistic missile ‘Pralay’ off the Odisha coast.

The solid-fuel, battlefield missile developed by DRDO is based on Prithvi Defence Vehicle from the Indian ballistic missile programme.

The missile, launched from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island met all the mission objectives.

‘Tamil Thai Vazhthu’ declared Tamil Nadu’s state song

The Tamil Nadu government has declared “Tamil Thai Vazhthu” (invocation to mother Tamil) as the state song. An order released by Chief Minister MK Stalin stated that the song has to be sung before the start of any event at all educational institutions, government offices and public forums.

The song is written by scholar Manonmaniam Sundaranar.

Haryana launches 'khel nursery scheme'

Haryana government had started 'Khel Nursery Scheme 2022-23' to promote sports in the state, under which sports nurseries would be started in government, private educational institutions and private sports institutions.

Anahat Singh becomes first Indian girl to win Jr Squash Open in US

13-year-old Delhi girl Anahat Singh became the first Indian to win the prestigious US Junior Squash Open at the Arlen Spectre Centre in Philadelphia.

Anahat won the title in the Under-15 category, beating Jayda Marei from Egypt 11-9, 11-5, 8-11, 11-5. Earlier, in the semifinals, she had beaten US national champion Dixon Hill 11-8, 11-9, 11-5.

SEBI's total income down 15% to Rs 813 crore in 2019-20

Capital markets regulator SEBI’s total income declined by 15 per cent to Rs 813 crore in 2019-20 mainly due to a drop in earnings from fees and subscription.

According to the annual accounts of SEBI made public, the total expenditure of the regulator rose to Rs 588.14 crore for the year ended on March 31, 2020, from Rs 492.34 crore in the previous fiscal.

PM Modi transfers ₹1,000 cr to bank accounts of SHGs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi transferred ₹1,000 crore to bank accounts of self help groups to benefit around 16 lakh women.

The amount was transferred under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM).

The mission aims to provide women, especially those at the grassroots, with necessary skills, incentives and resources.
