Russia overtakes Saudi Arabia to become India's 2nd biggest oil supplier

Russia has overtaken Saudi Arabia to become India's second-biggest supplier of oil behind Iraq as refiners snap up Russian crude available at a deep discount following the war in Ukraine.

Iraq remained the top supplier to India in May & Saudi Arabia is now the third biggest supplier.

After the U.S & China, India is the world’s third-largest consumer of oil.

Cabinet clears 'Agnipath' scheme for recruitment of youth in Armed Forces

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has announced that the Union Cabinet has approved a recruitment scheme for Indian youth to serve in the Armed Forces.

The scheme is called 'Agnipath' and the youth selected under this scheme will be known as 'Agniveers'.

About 46,000 of them will be recruited this year.

Union Cabinet approves development of new greenfield airport in Dholera

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the proposal for development of Phase I of New Greenfield Airport at Dholera, Gujarat at an estimated cost of Rs 1,305 crore, to be completed within 48 months.

The airport is planned for operationalisation from the year 2025-26.

Female labour participation rises to 25.1 per cent in 2020-21

The all-India female labour force participation rate (LFPR) in usual status has increased 2.3% in 2021 to 25.1% as compared to 22.8% a year ago, shows the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) annual report for July 2020-June 2021. The Worker population ratio (WPR) in usual status for persons of all ages in India is 39.8%.

UN appoints Bangladesh's Rabab Fatima appointed as high representative for LDCs

The United Nations has appointed Rabab Fatima of Bangladesh as high representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries & Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS).

She succeeds Courtenay Rattray of Jamaica who was appointed as the Chef de Cabinet.

She is the current ambassador and permanent representative of Bangladesh to the UN in New York.

Tamilnad Mercantile Bank gets SEBI’s nod to float IPO

The Thoothukudi (Tamil Nadu)-based Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd, has received market regulator SEBI’s approval to raise funds through an initial public offering (IPO).

The proposed IPO comprises a fresh issue of 1.582 crore shares and an offer for sale of 12,505 equity shares.

The offer will constitute 10 per cent of the post-offer paid-up equity share capital.

Finland’s Oliver Helander won gold with a personal best throw of 89.83m.

2022 season’s world leader Anderson Peters of Grenada claimed the bronze with 86.60m.
