The Rajya Sabha should consist of no more than 250 members—238 members representing the States and Union Territories and 12 members nominated by the President.

Revenue deficit grant of Rs 7,183 cr released to 14 states: FinMin

Finance ministry released the fourth instalment of revenue deficit grant of Rs 7,183 crore to 14 states for the current fiscal.

The 15th Finance Commission has recommended a total Post Devolution Revenue Deficit Grant of Rs 86,201 crore to 14 states for the financial year 2022-23. The grant is released in 12 equated monthly instalments.

IIT Kharagpur’s Indigenous BLDC Motor And Smart Controller For E-Rickshaws Pushed For Commercial Production

An indigenous BLDC motor and smart controller for e-Rickshaws developed by IIT Kharagpur has been transferred to M/s Brushless Motor India Pvt Ltd. for commercial production.

Indigenously developed,the brushless DC electric motor is important for India as 90% of the components and its technology for Electric Vehicles imported are not suitable for India's conditions.

Indian Naval Warship, INS Satpura and P8I LRMRASW aircraft will take part in one of the largest multilateral naval exercises, the Rim of the Pacific exercise (RIMPAC) at Pearl Harbour in Hawaii.

The sea phase is going to begin on 12 Jul 22 and will end with the closing ceremony on 4 Aug 22.

IRDAI has granted general insurance companies permission to include add-ons in motor own-damage policies for two-wheelers and private cars called "pay as you drive," "pay how you drive," and "floater policies" for vehicles owned by the same individual owner.

These covers will be offered as add-ons to the regular Motor-Own Damage (or Motor-OD) policy.

Mangarh Hillock to be declared monument of national importance

National Monument Authority chairman Tarun Vijay submitted a report to Union Minister of State for Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal on declaring Mangarh hillock in Rajasthan as a monument of National Importance.

The hillock, situated at the Gujarat-Rajasthan border, is a site of a tribal uprising where a massacre of over 1500 Bhil tribal freedom fighters took place in 1913.

Western Railways opens its longest skywalk connecting Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus to Khar station

The Western Railway’s (WR) longest skywalk from the Khar Road railway station to the nearby Bandra Terminus has been opened for the passengers to reach the platforms to board trains easily.

The skywalk spans 314 meters long and is 4.4 meters wide.

Skywalk will allow passengers to reach Bandra (T) directly by deboarding at Khar station & taking south Foot Over Bridge.

Govt issues notification for compliance of fuel consumption standards, aims efficient vehicles

Government issued a notification,amending a rule of Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989, to include compliance with fuel consumption standards (FCS), for light, medium and heavy-duty motor vehicles of various categories, manufactured in, or imported by India.

Prior to this notification, compliance with FCS was limited to motor vehicles of M1 category with weight 3.5 tonnes.

LazyPay stops BNPL payment product after RBI’s directive on PPI

LazyPay, the lending arm of PayU India, has temporarily stopped support for its buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) payment product LazyPlus UPI amid rising regulatory concerns for card-based credit fintech firms.

RBI, on June 20, barred non-bank wallets and pre-paid cards from loading their credit lines into these platforms.

Mohammad Barkindo, OPEC Secretary-General, Dies at 63

OPEC Secretary-General Mohammad Barkindo, an oil industry veteran who steered the group through the creation of the OPEC+ alliance, has died in his native Nigeria. He was 63.

Barkindo had headed the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries since 2016 and was scheduled to be replaced by Kuwait's Haitham Al-Ghais next month.

Polish government held a ceremony in Warsaw, where it honoured the royal families of Jamnagar and Kolhapur and others for providing shelter to Polish refugees who had fled the country during World War II.

Global Livability Index 2022: Bengaluru, ranked 146, scores least among Indian cities

Bengaluru fared the worst among Indian cities in the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) Global Livability Index 2022, which was released on June 24.

Bengaluru was ranked 146 with a total livability score of 54.4. Delhi and Mumbai were ranked 140 (score 56.5) and 141 (score 56.2) respectively. Chennai & Ahmedabad were placed at 142 & 143 respectively, scoring 55.8 and 55.7.

As part of the implementation of Resolution, on 23rd November 2021, the 41st Session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) General Conference proclaimed the 07th July of every year as the World Kiswahili Language Day.

Kiswahili is also the only African language that is an official language of the African Union.
