PayU calls off $4.7 bn acquisition of BillDesk; Prosus terminates deal after 13 months

Prosus NV, which owns PayU, has terminated a USD 4.7 billion (about Rs 38,400 crore) deal to acquire Indian payments firm BillDesk, saying certain conditions precedent were not met. Prosus, the global investment arm of South African multinational Nasper, on August 31 last year announced the acquisition of BillDesk in an all-cash deal.

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2022 was awarded to

->Alain Aspect (France)

->John F. Clauser (USA)

->Anton Zeilinger (Australia)

"for experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science".

Their results have cleared the way for new technology based upon quantum information.

ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti becomes first European female ISS commander

Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti has officially become the first European woman to command the International Space Station (ISS).

Cristoforetti, 45, took over from Oleg Artemyev, becoming the fifth European commander of the ISS after Frank De Winne, Alexander Gerst, Luca Parmitano and Thomas Pesquet.

Trade and Development Report 2022: UNCTAD

UNCTAD projects that world economic growth will slow to 2.5% in 2022 and drop to 2.2% in 2023. The global slowdown would leave real GDP still below its pre-pandemic trend, costing the world more than $17 trillion – close to 20% of the world’s income.

The average growth rate for developing economies is projected to drop below 3%.

India signs deal with Armenia for export of missiles, weapon systems

In a significant move to boost India's defence export, the country has signed an export order for missiles, rockets, and ammunition to Armenia because of its conflict with Azerbaijan.

In a first, India will also export indigenous Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers.

Armenia is also set to get anti-tank rockets as well as a range of ammunition from India under the deal.

3-day Digital India Conference of State IT Ministers concludes; Govt approves ₹26,000 crore to install 25,000 mobile towers

The government has approved ₹26,000 crore for installation of 25,000 mobile towers in 500 days. The financial support for the project will be provided by Universal Services Obligation Fund and will be implemented by Bharat Broadband Network.

It was announced at the recently concluded 'Digital India Conference of State IT Ministers' in New Delhi.
