Retired BPCL head Arun Kumar Singh appointed ONGC chairman for 3 years

Arun Kumar Singh, formerly the chairman of the oil refining and marketing company BPCL was appointed as the new chairman of ONGC, India's major oil and gas producer, for three years.

This is the first instance of a retired person being appointed the head of a Maharatna PSU.

There are twelve companies that have the Maharatna status.

Tata Sons' N Chandrasekaran appointed Chair of B20 India

The government has appointed Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran as the Chair of B20 India, industry body CII said.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has been appointed as the B20 India Secretariat by the Indian government to lead the B20 India process.

He will lead the business agenda during India's G-20 presidency.

Peru gets its first female president after Pedro Castillo is impeached

The South American country, Peru, saw a significant political upheaval. Pedro Castillo has been impeached and arrested & Dina Boluarte has become the country’s first female President.

The latest political crisis in Peru is a continuation of a series of events that have led to four Presidents since 2020. Castillo, a left-wing former school teacher, was elected in June 2021.

Ujjivan SFB gets RBI nod to reappoint Ittira Davis as MD and CEO for 2 years

Ujjivan Small Finance Bank on December 7, said it has received the approval of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for the reappointment of Ittira Davis as its managing director and chief executive officer for a period of two years.

Davis has been associated with Ujjivan since March 2015.

Oxford dictionary chooses 'Goblin Mode' as word of year 2022

Oxford Dictionaries said that “goblin mode” has been selected by an online vote as its word of the year. It defines the term as “a type of behavior which is unapologetically self-indulgent, lazy, slovenly, or greedy, typically in a way that rejects social norms or expectations.”In 2021, the Oxford word of the year was “vax”.

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu clinches silver at Weightlifting World Championship in Colombia

Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu won silver at the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships in Colombia. She beat the Tokyo 2020 champion Hou Zhihua of China. Mirabai lifted a combined weight of 200 kg compared to Zhihua's total of 198 kg. This was Mirabai's second medal at the World Championships, having previously won gold in 2017 with a lift of 194 kg.

NABARD names Shri Shaji KV as Chairman

Shaji Krishnan V has been named Chairman of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). He formerly served as NABARD’s Deputy Managing Director (DMD) till May 21, 2020.

From 2013 until 2017, he served as the Chairman of Kerala Grameen Bank.

He replaced Govinda Rajulu Chintala.

100 percent FDI allowed for commercial mining, says Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi

The Government today said it has taken several steps to ramp up domestic coal production in the country. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi said 100 percent Foreign Direct Investment is allowed for commercial mining. The major initiatives taken to increase domestic production of coal include Single Window Clearance.

NSIC, Walmart join hands to strengthen outreach program for MSMEs

National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) and retail giant Walmart signed an MoU to strengthen the latter’s outreach program for the benefit of MSMEs.

The signing of the pact was held at Walmart Vriddhi MSME Summit 2022 in New Delhi where 20,000 MSMEs were honoured from all over India who have expanded their businesses with the support of the Vriddhi program.

Govt exempts phone IMEI registration requirement for exports

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has notified that the requirement for registering the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) of mobile phones for exports has been suspended.

IMEI is a unique 15-digit code assigned to every mobile phone to identify the device connected to a mobile network. A dual SIM phone will have two unique IMEI numbers.

Rs 2.44-trn plan for 500-Gw renewable energy transmission launched

In order to support the 500 Gw renewable energy (RE) capacity by the end of this decade, the Union ministry of power launched a plan “Transmission System for Integration of over 500 Gw RE Capacity by 2030.” The plan — which entails connecting mega solar parks and wind power zones with the national grid — will see an investment of Rs 2.44 trillion in transmission projects.

RBI announces extension on HTM bond books dispensation till March 2024

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said it has extended the dispensation of an enhanced limit of the held-to-maturity (HTM) portfolio for government bonds till March 31 next year, enabling banks to better manage their investment portfolios. It permitted banks to include securities purchased between September 1, 2020 and March 31, 2024 in the increased limit for HTM portfolios.
