Karim Benzema signs 3-year deal with Saudi champions Al Ittihad

Former Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema has signed a deal to join Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad football club on a three-year deal.

He joins his former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League after the five-time world player of the year moved to Al Nassr from Manchester United following last year’s World Cup.

Cabinet approves Metro Connectivity from HUDA City Centre to Cyber City, Gurugram with Spur to Dwarka Expressway

The Union cabinet has approved the elevated Gurugram metro project to connect Cyber City with Huda City Centre with spur to Dwarka Expressway covering a total of 28.5 km and 27 stations. The cost of the project has been pegged at ₹5,452 crore and expected to be completed in four years.

Twin CBG operation: INS Vikramaditya, Vikrant lead Navy’s mega ops in Arabian Sea

The Navy carried out a massive Carrier Battle Group (CBG) operation involving more than 35 aircraft in the Arabian Sea, one of the biggest demonstrations of its operational capabilities in recent years.

This was a twin CBG operation involving both of India’s aircraft carriers - INS Vikramaditya & INS Vikrant,along with a diverse fleet of escort ships,submarines & aircraft.

Jaishankar to chair G20 development ministers’ meeting in Varanasi

External Affairs minister S Jaishankar is to chair the G20 development ministers’ meeting, taking place from 11-13 June in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

The development ministers‘ meeting was preceded by the fourth and final Development Working Group (DWG) meeting, held from June 6 to 9 in Delhi.

Unemployment rate dips 7.7% in May on decline in labour participation: Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE)

The unemployment rate in India fell to 7.7 per cent in May due to a decline in the labour participation at 441.9 million.

Compared to April, labour participation rate (LPR) fell by 1.1 percentage point to 39.6 per cent in May.

Unemployment rate in India among people aged 15 years and above fell to 7.7 per cent in May 2023, from 8.5 per cent in the previous month.

India tops in digital payments, records 89.5 mn transactions, says MyGovInd

According to data from MyGovIndia, India has recorded with 89.5 million digital transactions in the year 2022.

India in the year 2022 accounting for 46% global real-time payments, adding that the digital payment transactions in India is more than the other four leading countries combined.

Brazil which amounted to 29.2 million transactions was second on the list.

Iga Swiatek retains French Open 2023 crown after defeating Karolina Muchova

Polish Iga Swiatek defeated Czech Republic's Karolina Muchova 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in 2023 French Open Women's Singles final.

Swiatek has become youngest women's player to clinch consecutive titles at the French Open since Monica Seles (1990, 1991, 2002).

She further became the first woman to win back-to-back French Open titles since Belgium's Justine Henin (2005, 2006, 2007).

The Mercer's Cost of Living survey was conducted across 227 cities from across five continents. In Mercer's 2023 Cost of Living survey, Mumbai has been positioned at 147 in the global ranking, New Delhi at 169, Chennai (184), Bengaluru (189), Hyderabad (202), Kolkata (211), and Pune (213).

Globally, Hong Kong, Singapore and Zurich are the most expensive cities.

China completes the construction of the most powerful wind tunnel in the world

The wind tunnel in the mountainous Huairou district of northern Beijing is known as JF-22.

It has a diameter of 4 meters(13 feet) and is capable of generating extremely high airflow speeds of up to 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) per second.

This impressive capability allows it to simulate hypersonic flight conditions up to Mach 30, which is 30 times the speed of sound.

Extremely Severe Cyclone Biparjoy to cross Saurashtra, Kutch, Pak coast on June 15

Biparjoy is likely to cross Saurashtra, Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) around noon of June 15 as very severe cyclone with wind speed reaching 125-135 kmph gusting to 150 kmph.

'Biparjoy' was suggested by Bangladesh and the word means 'disaster' or 'calamity' in Bengali.

Biparjoy is also the strongest cyclone in Arabian Sea after cyclone Tauktae.
