Indian Surf Team won the bronze medal at the Asian Surfing Championship, held at Thulisdhoo Island in Maldives. 18 countries from Asia took part in this championship. The Surfing Federation of India sent a team comprising 4 senior Surfers in the men’s category and 2 Surfers in the Under 18 category. 5 out of the 6 Surfers were from Tamilnadu.
The General Assembly declared International Moon Day, a United Nations-designated international day to be observed annually on 20 July, in its resolution 76/76 on “International cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space” in 2021. International Moon Day marks the anniversary of the first landing by humans on the Moon as part of the Apollo 11 lunar mission.
The theme for 2023 is “Lunar Exploration Coordination & Sustainability.”

The government has appointed Sat Pal Bhanoo as one of the managing directors of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC). He has been appointed in place of Siddhartha Mohanty who has been appointed as chairman of LIC in April. Bhanoo's appointment is effective from the date of assumption of charge and up to the date of his superannuation on December 31, 2025 or until further orders
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the licence of Uttar Pradesh-based United India Co-operative Bank. Consequently, the bank (Nagina, Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh) will cease to carry on banking business with effect from the close of business on July 19, 2023, according to a RBI statement.
In what is seen as a prelude to the next round of consolidation among regional rural banks (RRBs), the Centre has exempted such banks from the purview of CCI’s merger control regime.
The exemption dispensation from prior scrutiny and approval of Competition Commission of India (CCI) would be available for five years, the Corporate Affairs Ministry (MCA) said.
India could become a developed country by 2047 with an average annual real GDP growth of 7.6 per cent over the next 25 years, said an article published by the Reserve Bank in its July bulletin. During 2022-23, India recorded a growth of 7.2 per cent. The RBI's projection for GDP growth for the current fiscal year is 6.5 per cent.
