Norwegian author Jon Fosse wins Nobel Prize in Literature 2023

The Nobel Prize in Literature 2023 is awarded to the Norwegian author Jon Fosse, "for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable."

His immense oeuvre written in Norwegian Nynorsk and spanning a variety of genres consists of a wealth of plays, novels, poetry collections, essays, children’s books and translations.

SBI Chairman Dinesh Kumar Khara's Tenure Extended Till August 2024

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has given its nod for extending the tenure of SBI Chairman Dinesh Kumar Khara till August 28, 2024.

Khara was appointed as Chairman of the country’s largest commercial bank on October 7, 2020, for a period of three years. The current norms stipulate that a person can hold the post of SBI Chairman up to the age of 63.

RBI Inclues 23 More Banks Under UDGAM Portal For Unclaimed Deposits

The Reserve Bank of India has included 23 more banks under its UDGAM portal launched to help the public search for unclaimed deposits. The Unclaimed Deposits Gateway to Access information platform now has 30 lenders, according to a statement by the RBI. NPCI International Payments Ltd, the international arm of the National Payment Corporation of India inked an agreement with Al Etihad Payments of UAE to provide real-time and cost-effective cross-border remittances for the users of both countries. Prof. Dr Joyeeta Gupta receives Spinoza Prize in field of climate change

Indian-origin professor Dr Joyeeta Gupta has received the Spinoza Prize, the highest distinction in Dutch science for her work in the field of climate change at a ceremony in the Netherlands. The Dutch Research Council (NWO) prize is worth 1.5 million euros which Gupta intends to spend on scientific research and activities related to knowledge utilisation.

India’s services sector growth surges to 13-year high in September

India's dominant services sector expanded at its fastest pace in 13 years last month as demand increased significantly despite elevated inflationary pressures. S&P Global's India services purchasing managers' index rose to 62.3 in July from June's 58.5, confounding expectations in a Reuters poll for a dip to 58.0. It was the highest index reading since June 2010.

RBI keeps repo rate unchanged at 6.5 percent

Jailed Iranian women rights' activist Narges Mohammadi has been conferred with the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced on October 6.

The 2022 Peace Prize was awarded to human rights advocate Ales Bialiatski from Belarus, the Russian human rights organisation Memorial and the Ukrainian human rights organisation Center for Civil Liberties.
