Centre's direct tax collections up 22% at ₹10.60 lakh crore so far in FY24: Finance Ministry

Provisional figures of Direct Tax collections up to 9 November said Gross Direct Tax collections are at Rs.12.37 lakh crore, which is 17.59% higher than last year. Direct Tax collection, net of refunds, stands at Rs. 10.60 lakh crore which is 21.82% higher than net collections for last year.

This collection is 58.15% of total Budget Estimates of Direct Taxes for FY 2023-24.

India & Bangladesh Navies Undertake CORPAT & BONGOSAGAR

The 4th edition of the Bilateral Exercise, BONGOSAGAR-23, and the 5th edition of the Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) between the Indian and Bangladesh Navies took place in the Northern Bay of Bengal from November 7 to 9, 2023.

CORPAT-23 marked a significant milestone with the inclusion of the maiden Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) drills.

National Education Day 2023 - November 11

National Education Day is observed annually on November 11 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the First Education Minister of India(from 1947 to 1958).

The Ministry of Human Resource Development declared his birthday as National Education Day in 2008.

He was posthumously awarded Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, in 1992.

InCred holdco becomes 2nd unicorn of 2023 after Zepto

Mumbai-based InCred Financial Services Ltd (InCred Finance), the lending arm of financial services firm InCred Group, has raised ₹500 crore in its Series D round of funding, becoming the second startup to join the coveted ‘unicorn’ club this year after quick commerce firm Zepto.

The latest round values InCred Financial at about ₹8,800 crore or $1.05 billion.

IMF's executive board approves 50% quota increase to strengthen resources

The executive board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved a proposal to make a 50% increase in the quota allocated to members in proportion to their current quotas.

The proposal will now be considered and made effective by the board of governors as part of concluding the 16th general review of quotas.

October e-way bill generation hits all-time high at Rs 10.3 crore

E-way bills, or electronic permits, generated by businesses for transporting goods within & across states shot up to an all-time high of Rs 10.3 crore in October, breaking previous record of Rs 9.34 crore reported in August.

E-way bills are mandatory for movement of consignments worth more than Rs 50,000, and are, therefore, an early indicator of demand & supply trends.

Chikungunya vaccine: US approves first shot against mosquito-borne virus

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on November 9 approved the world's inaugural vaccine targeting chikungunya, a virus transmitted by infected mosquitoes, as per an APF report.

Developed by Europe's Valneva, the vaccine will be marketed as Ixchiq.

Ixchiq, administered in a single dose, contains a live, weakened version of the chikungunya virus.

India Has Maximum Cases Of Tuberculosis In The World: WHO Report

India had the highest number of Tuberculosis (TB) cases in the world in 2022, says the Global TB Report 2023 by the World Health Organisation.

The country accounted for 27 per cent of the total TB cases in the world. There were 28.2 lakh cases and of them, 12 per cent (3,42,000 people) died due to the disease, said the report.

Nagaland Legislative Assembly Passes Municipal Bill 2023- Excludes Taxes and Land Provisions, Retains 33% Reservation for Women

In a special session, the Nagaland Assembly unanimously passed a Bill that retained 33% reservation for women in urban local bodies.

But the Nagaland Municipal Bill 2023 has done away with women’s reservation for the post of chairperson in municipal bodies.

Provisions related to taxes, land and buildings have been excluded.

IndiGo’s IGE plans to operate electric air taxis in India, ties ups with US-based Archer

IndiGo parent InterGlobe Enterprises (IGE) plans to launch and operate an all-electric taxi air service in India, in 2026. It has tied up with a leading California-based electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft player Archer Aviation, which is backed by the likes of Boeing, United Airlines, and Stellantis.

Dominant Maharashtra wins 37th National Games in Goa with record 228 medals, Services finishes second

Maharashtra emerged as winners as they lifted the famous Raja Bhalindra Singh Trophy after a historic triumph at the 37th National Games on November 9.

With 228 medals, and a new national record, Maharashtra held on to their lead at the top.

Maharashtra also broke Services' winning streak of four consecutive titles by topping the table after 29 years.

ICC suspends Sri Lanka Cricket’s membership with immediate effect

The International Cricket Council Board suspended Sri Lanka Cricket’s membership of the ICC with immediate effect.

In a statement released, the ICC said that the SLC had breached its obligations as a member, in particular the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and without government interference.
