Rajnath Singh to attend 10th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus in Jakarta

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will pay an official visit to Jakarta on November 16 and 17 to attend the 10th Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) and will address the forum on regional and international security issues.

Indonesia is hosting the meeting as the chair of ADMM-Plus.

NASA, ISRO gearing up to launch joint space mission to map globe every 12 days

The NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) is set to be launched in the first quarter of 2024 after a few tests, particularly those related to vibration.

The mission, which has three-year duration, aims to survey all of Earth's land and ice-covered surfaces every 12 days.

This will start after a 90-day satellite commissioning period.

Sahara Group chairman Subrata Roy passes away at 75

Subrata Roy, the founder of Sahara India Pariwar, passed away on November 14. He was 75.

The Sahara group was once considered India’s second largest employer after the Indian Railways, with a professed employee base of around 1.2 million.

The group launched the Hindi language newspaper Rashtriya Sahara in 1992.

Russia to supply improved variant of man-portable missile system

Russia has signed a contract to supply Igla-S hand-held anti-aircraft missiles to India and allow production of the Igla there under licence, the Russian state news agency TASS quoted a top arms export official as saying.

The Igla-S is a man-portable air defence system (MANPADS) that can be fired by an individual or crew to bring down an enemy aircraft.

Former Indian Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar appointed as advisor to USISPF board

Former Indian Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar has been appointed as an advisor to the board of the US-India Strategic and Partnership Forum (USISPF).

Kumar served as the defence secretary between August 2019 and October 2022.

Kumar is the longest-serving secretary in the Ministry of Defence, having also served as Secretary in the Department of Defence Production.

Japan gets a new island after undersea volcano erupts

Japan has gained another island to add to its already impressive collection, after an undersea volcanic eruption 1,200km (745 miles) south of Tokyo created a new landmass.

Experts said the tiny island emerged after a series of eruptions that began in October near Iwoto island, part of the Ogasawara island chain in the western Pacific.

Shital Mahajan Makes History: First Woman to Skydive from 21,500 ft Near Mt Everest

Indian skydiver Shital Mahajan jumped off a helicopter from the height of 21,500 ft in front of the world's highest peak, Mt Everest. She became the first woman to do so.

Mahajan is a well-known Indian skydiver who holds several skydiving records and is the recipient of the fourth-highest civilian award, the Padma Shri in 2001.
