Centre Appoints Alok Sharma As New Special Protection Group Chief

According to an order issued from the Department of Personnel & Training, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Alok Sharma to the post of Director of Special Protection Group (SPG) from the date of assumption of charge of the post and until further orders.

The vacancy was necessitated following the demise of SPG chief Arun Kumar Sinha.

Reserve Bank of India permits banks to open current account for export proceeds

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) permitted banks to open additional current accounts for export proceeds in addition to special rupee vostro accounts with a view to providing greater operational flexibility to exporters.

India has been trying to promote rupee trade following the Russia-Ukraine war and the sanctions imposed by the West.

RBI approves Hinduja Group entity acquisition of Reliance Capital

The Reserve Bank of India approved the resolution plan for debt-ridden Reliance Capital. The move finally clears the path for Hinduja Group entity -- IndusInd International Holdings Ltd (IIHL) -- to acquire the company.

The RBI appointed Nageswara Rao Y as the administrator in relation to the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) of the company.

NISAR, the NASA-ISRO joint earth observation mission passes key tests at Bengaluru

The NASA-ISRO Satellite Aperture RADAR (NISAR) mission is an Earth observation satellite jointly built by the Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) at NASA and ISRO, India. The mission would enable detailed observation of earth’s land and ice mass at an unprecedented scale and precision. NISAR will be the first mission to house radars of two different frequencies.

SpaceX loses rocket, spacecraft over Gulf of Mexico in second test flight

SpaceX's gargantuan deep-space rocket system, Starship, safely lifted off but ended prematurely with an explosion and a loss of signal. The Starship spacecraft successfully separated after liftoff, as the Starship lit up its engines and pushed away. Japan and India are the most favoured markets in the Asia Pacific region, reveals the fund manager survey (FMS) conducted by Bank of America (BofA). Japan (net 45 per cent overweight) cements its place at the top of the preference stack, followed by India (25 per cent) Thailand (net 13 per cent underweight), China, and Australia (net 9 per cent underweight, each).

Ladakh’s Sea Buckthorn gets GI tag

The Geographical Indication Registry under DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, GoI, approved the Department of Industries and Commerce, Ladakh as the Registered Proprietor for ‘Ladakh Sea Buckthorn’ in Class 31.

This would be the fourth GI Tag for Ladakh.

Earlier, Ladakh Pashmina, Apricot (Raktse Carpo species) and Ladakhi wood carvings have also got GI tags.

Tamil writer Perumal Murugan has won the coveted JCB Prize for Literature for his novel, Fire Bird, an English translation of his Tamil novel Aalanda Patchi. The award carries a ₹25 lakh cash prize. The book was translated by Janani Kannan and published by Penguin.

RBI’s Economic Activity Index Estimates Q3 GDP Growth At 6.3%
