According to an order issued from the Department of Personnel & Training, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Alok Sharma to the post of Director of Special Protection Group (SPG) from the date of assumption of charge of the post and until further orders.
The vacancy was necessitated following the demise of SPG chief Arun Kumar Sinha.

Tamil writer Perumal Murugan has won the coveted JCB Prize for Literature for his novel, Fire Bird, an English translation of his Tamil novel Aalanda Patchi. The award carries a ₹25 lakh cash prize. The book was translated by Janani Kannan and published by Penguin.
The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims was started by RoadPeace in 1993. In 2005, the United Nations endorsed it as a global day to be observed every third Sunday in November each year, as the “appropriate acknowledgement for victims of road traffic injuries and their families”. India's GDP in the October-December quarter is expected to see a sequential rise from the previous quarter, according to the RBI. India is poised to maintain its growth momentum as strong macroeconomic fundamentals impart resilience in the face of global headwinds. The RBI's economic activity index nowcasts GDP growth for Q3 FY24 at 6.3%.
