The World Cider Day on June 3rd is an international declaration of love for the popular cult drink. It symbolizes the beginning of the apple cider season all over the world. The Apple Cider Day aims to generate publicity for the wide variety and characteristics of apple cider, to whet people’s appetite for apple cider, to provide information about apple cider.
Globally, June 3 is observed as World Clubfoot Day, believed to have been designated by the Ponseti International Association or the PIA, in commemoration of the birthday of Dr Ignacio Ponseti (1914-2009), the developer of the Ponseti Method for treating clubfoot.
According to Ponseti International, clubfoot is the most common “musculoskeletal birth deformity, affecting 2,00,000 newborn children each year, 80 per cent in the developing countries”.
In a landmark achievement in the global health security agenda, the 77th World Health Assembly agreed to the package of amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005) based on 300 proposals made by member countries after the Covid-19 pandemic.
The targeted amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR) aim at improving countries’ ability to prepare for and respond to Public Health Emergencies of International Concern (PHEIC) and Pandemic Emergencies (PE). As a result, on 1st June, 2024 the Resolution to amendment of IHR (2005) was adopted by consensus in the 77th World Health Assembly.
Indian pugilist Amit Pangal has secured the prestigious Paris Olympic quota in the men’s 51 kg category. He triumphed over Liu Chuang of China at the World Boxing Qualifiers in Bangkok, with a commanding 5-nil quarter-final victory. Amit is the fifth Indian boxer to qualify for the Paris Olympics, following Nishant Dev, Nikhat Zareen, Preeti Pawar and Lovlina Borgohain.

Nithya Ramraj bagged the silver medal with a timing of 13.23 seconds. While, Vismaya V K won the bronze in the women’s 400m race.
India’s Tanvi Sharma bagged the women’s singles title of the Bonn International Badminton Tournament, in Germany. The young Indian shuttler defeated Wang Pei Yu of Taiwan in straight sets, 21-19, 22-20. This is the first senior title for the 15-year-old Tanvi.
The gross Goods and Services Tax revenue for month of May this year stood at 1.73 lakh crore rupees. Ministry of Finance said that this represents a 10 per cent year-on-year growth. Out of the total collection in the month of May, CGST is over 32,000 crore rupees, SGST is over 40,000 crore rupees, IGST is over 87,781 crore rupees and cess is over 12 thousand crore rupees.
The Ministry added that after accounting for refunds, the net GST revenue for the last month stands at 1.44 lakh crore rupees, reflecting a growth of 6.9 per cent compared to the same period last year. The gross GST collections in the financial year 2024-25 stood at 3.83 lakh crore rupees. This represents an impressive 11.3 per cent year-on-year growth.
World Bicycle Day was first marked on June 3, 2018, following a resolution adopted by United Nations General Assembly on April 12, 2018. The theme for 2024 is “Promoting Health, Equity, and Sustainability through Cycling.” The day aims to promote various benefits of cycling, including strengthening education, promoting tolerance, preventing diseases, encouraging exercise.
REC Ltd said its board has approved raising the borrowing limit in foreign currency to $24 billion form $20 billion.
The overall borrowing limit in Indian rupees was however retained at Rs 6 lakh crore, the company said in an exchange filing. The board also approved raising up to Rs 1,45,000 crore through private placement of unsecured/secured non-convertible bonds.

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has approved the appointment of Sandeep Batra, as Chairman of the Board of Directors of ICICI Prudential. The appointment of Batra will be effective from June 30, 2024. Batra has been associated with ICICI group since September 2000 and is currently an Executive Director on the Board of ICICI Bank since 2018.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) committed $2.6 billion in sovereign lending to India in 2023 for projects that aim to strengthen urban development, support industrial corridor development, promote power sector reforms, build India’s climate resilience, support horticulture, and enhance connectivity.
ADB also extended $23.53 million in technical assistance and $4.1 million in grants under the sovereign portfolio. In addition, ADB committed over $1 billion for private sector projects during the year. Established in 1966, it is owned by 68 members—49 from the region.
